Frome the VA website.......
"Virgin Atlantic will be changing it's check-in baggage policy to a 'Piece System' across the entire network for all tickets booked from 25 November 2009. This replaces the change originally intended for launch on the 23rd September and now includes a revised allowance for passengers travelling Economy.
The changes are being made to allow us to simplify our policy, save costs, and lower our charges for passengers wishing to take additional bags. In the majority of cases, passengers who wish to fly with excess baggage in addition to their free allowances will pay less than they do now."
New Allowances from 25 November 2009
Number of Bags - 23kg Each:
Route:USA
Upper Class:3 Premium Economy:2 Economy:1 Infants:1

Well hopefully we can save some money next time then as the baggage allowance is the main reason we have always flown Virgin.

I can see I'm going to have to make a sacrifice for the rest of the family and travel on my own in FC. Purely to increase our luggage allowance you understand.

Yes, you do......
"Passengers who have made a booking before 25th November 2009, will retain their existing allowance.
Any passenger making a booking on or after 25th November 2009, will have the new allowances applied to their booking."

i think you will have Siobahn, Dawn you should be fine. I think to get an extra bag with BA is only £50. we only tend to bring one bag extra back now and we have bought suitcases that stack inside each other. TBH i was fed up of taking too much stuff that you never use.

Do you think if you make a VH booking before this date you will still be eligible to the 2 x 23kgs??

Delta are charging for more than one bag and looks like a lot of the airlines are going that way.

If weight is the main issue here then maybe my DW and I could get reduced airline ticket prices when you compare our statures with some of the heavier folks.

That is my fear that one day I will be weighed before I am allowed on a plane
Apparently if you purchase an "extra bag" in advance it is £32, but at check-in it will be £40. But either way it's still a whole lot cheaper than upgrading to PE.

Quite a bit of our case weight comes from things like shampoo, conditioners, shower gels, lotions and potions to last the month.
I'm quite a creature of habit and dread not being able to find my 'brand' of shampoo when we get out there :embarassed:
I need someone to come up with a business where you can rent at a reasonable charge a little locker for the year so we can leave items and pick them up on the next visit.
However, I won't miss carrying the extra case!

Remind me about this before your next trip Diane, I may be able to help out there.
