Looks like a really nice laptop. I've never heard any complaints for people buying VAIO's- I prefer toshibas myself if I'm buying a windows computer.

I wouldn't be doin' my job if I didn't say.. have you considered a mac?!

Thanks Josh I'm not buying it but it is being offered as a replacement for Jacks damaged laptop by my insurance company.Don't think they'd run to a Mac!

You're the first person I've heard that doesn't like the VAIO laptops  I'd ask the insurance if you could perhaps ugrade to the macbook but if not the vaio looks okay- I'd still prefer a tosh just because those are the only ones I have personal, first hand experience of.

LOL it's not like I have much choice as it's an insurance replacement and a much better laptop than the one it is replacing anyway.Might look a bit suss if I start asking to add extra to buy a Mac when to be honest I'm damn lucky the insurance company are helping me at all!

We've always had Vaio PCs in our house. In all the years we've had them I've never known how to pronounce Vaio.

The Vaios are nice, I've had plenty in various businesses over the years, and one from about 10 years ago is still in use at my parent's place.

I like the styling and they're generally well thought out.

They CAN be a little idiosyncratic which doesn't usually bother people if they use the sony supplied install disks etc.

I haven't noticed a higher than normal failure rate but on the occasions when a failure DOES occur, I've found sony less than willing to repair without a lot of questions and insistence.

I'd accept one from insurance sure, but if it were my own dime, I'd try and get a Toshiba.

As it is an insurance offer i would go with the Sony as it is a nice bit of kit.

However, if it were me i am going to go against the grain and say i would go for a Samsung. Ever since my now wife bought me a Samsung Telly for xmas a few years back we have bought where possible Samsung electrical items. You always seem to get more for your money with them and my current laptop which i use solely for DJ'ing is a Samsung R510 with 3Gig Processor and 4Gig Memory and i have to say it is the best laptop i have used.
