View Full Version : The Kitchen Sink Tour July 2008

10-07-2008, 05:40 PM
At last this weekend has arrived and Jodie and Claire (with DD Danielle) are coming down to stay for a weekend of Disney.

I've had an awful week so i am so looking forward to seeing them.

Last Friday i went to the hospital about some problems i have had and found out on top of everything else i knew was wrong i have fibroids (one of which is the size of a grapefruit) and i have to have a hysterectomy.I now face 3 months of tests before they decide what to do and when.My first appointment is next Wednesday.

Then on Sunday DS was chatting to his 'girlfriend' (they are only 12 and 13) on MSN when she told him she had taken an overdose. She told him not to tell anyone but he showed me the message straight away. Her Mum was at work so i had to run round and call the ambulance while DS ran to get her Mum from work. She is ok and home now but the shock off it all is still effecting me and DS and i haven't slept well all week.

Tuesday morning we woke up to find the hamster had died and i had to bury her that evening.

On top of all that the ex announced he was engaged and getting married in Sri Lanka next year.

So all in all i think i deserve to let my hair down this weekend!

Jodie is arriving by train on Friday evening so we will grab fish and chips on the way home and Claire says we can't sat anything or do anything until she arrives on Saturday as she is driving down from Weston Super Mare.(and is worried about crossing the scary ferry)

We are going to spend the weekend talking Disney and watching each others holidays videos and looking at photos.

I know it's a bit of a habit of mine inviting strangers to my house which is why i'm telling you all now just in case ;)

We are also going to make our own 'Kitchen Sink' on Saturday so i will post a few pics before we eat it!!!

Have a safe journey both of, i can'y wait to see you!

Here’s my offering ….

The day before

Why I am going to the other end of the country for 40 hours? Well, why not?

A few months ago two dibbers and myself got the pm-ing, then msns-ing, then texting, then ringing and the next logical step was meeting!

Our date was decided by the cost of train fares and once I had persuaded my boss it really was ok for me to leave work at 11am on a Friday I jumped on the world wide web and got my cheap-ish tickets booked.

I have almost packed ….

I have my holiday dvd’s to watch …..

I have my Harry Potter book for the 5 hours and 38 minutes train journey …..

But most importantly, I have the wine and crisps! …..

I am very excited and a teeny bit nervous but if I wanna barf and run when the train pulls into Plymouth Claire says’s she’ll call me and talk me through meeting Teresa on a platform down south!

10-07-2008, 09:42 PM
OMG hurry up and get here with the contents of the last photo!

10-07-2008, 09:56 PM

12-07-2008, 09:08 AM
Well, after a very brief appearance at work I left at 11am and drove home as fast as the speed limit’s allowed, grabbed my stuff and set off.

The bus came promptly

and there was almost no traffic into town to I arrived at Leeds train station an hour early, I found the platform I needed, this is a must, Leeds is a massive train station and it can take 15-20 minutes to get from the entrance to your platform, especially if the escalator is down and you have to lug you overnight bag, food, wine and laptop up a flight of stairs!

I quickly got bored of waiting

so carrying my very heavy bags I set about finding a loo and a latte.

Both of these objectives were met quickly, I’m on a roll today! I returned to -platform 11a and waited. And waited. And waited. The train arrived bang on-time, thank god, and I jumped on as quickly as someone carrying twice their own bodyweight in crisps and wine can jump

After turfing a business man out of my reserved seat I sat down backwards. I hate travelling backwards but I did have seat on the apparently very popular Glasgow to Penzance cross country train.

After an hour or so somebody left a ‘non-reserved’ forward facing seat so I swapped and all was well in the world of Jodie’s motion sickness!

The journey down was bad at all, at times the train was heaving but after Exeter people dwindles quickly and I was able stretch my legs a bit. Hey, I might be short but my legs still need a stretch every now and then!

I was planning on reading my Harry Potter book (again) but been very nosy I settled for watching the world around me. I chatted to a lovely eldery Scottish couple who were travelling from Glasgow to Bristol, I ‘kept and eye on’ a fella’s laptop while he pee’d and then looked disgruntled at a man who wasn’t aware of the concept of ‘quite coach’ and truly believed the day would be ruined if everyone on the train, not just our coach, wasn’t listening to his mp3 player with him.

Every so often I would send or receive a text from Teresa and Claire, ‘On train now’, ‘3 hours to go’, ‘Just passed a field’, you know, letting them know all the important stuff.

When the train was slowing to pull into Plymouth Claire, as promised rang me to check if I was nervous but surprisingly I wasn’t, Teresa knew I was at the front of the train and I saw her and the kids as the train slowed,

When it stopped I jumped of the train and headed towards her and they to me, it was like meeting a friend you hadn’t seen in a while. No nerves just big smiles and hugs and we were on our way.

12-07-2008, 09:20 AM
have a great time teresa :)

oh he can go there for a wedding but cant give those terrific kids of yours a penny for their holiday to disney, well you know what i think of him so i wont blaspheme on here

12-07-2008, 11:55 AM
We are now sat here on the sofa watching the first of my holiday dvds from 2007.

We surprised Claire when she arrived with a Birthday cake, streamers, balloons and cards as it's her Birthday on Tuesday and it was like we were old friends not strangers who only talk on the internet!!!

Claire was really brave and caught the scary ferry all by herself and we met her to follow us home.

We are having lunch shortly so i will update again later and let the girls fill you in with their versions of events and the photos they are constantle taking!!!

We are going to have such a great weekend.

13-07-2008, 01:47 PM
We had an absolutely fabulous weekend and the house is so quiet now they have gone.

We got on just like we were old friends and haven't stopped laughing.I was so sad when it was time for them to go.

I've been poorly all weekend and not even the bottles of wine and all the food made me better.I've had a sore throat and no voice which has now developed into a tickly.chesty cough and i can't breathe properly.

WE watched as many dvds as we could and had a look at each others photos but we were more interested in talking and laughing.

The 'Kitchen Sink' was superb but we didn't manage to finish it all.
I will let the girls fill you in on all the details as they are so much better at it than me.They also took all the photos.Hundreds between them!!!

We started with a bottle of Bucks Fizz at 6pm followed by a bottle of Rose and then a 1.5l bottle of white!!

We stayed up talking, kids included, until nearly 2am and just wish we'd had longer.

We were like zombies this morning but managed to catch the right ferry and dropped the kids of at the cinema with their free tickets for Wall-e.

We took Jodie over to catch her train and said a tearful goodbye before running up the platform waving to her as the train pulles away.

Claire and i wandered around Plymouth for an hour stopping in the Build a Bear for a 'look' then ended up in the Disney Store where we begged for some Mickey shaped metallic sprinkles for our scrapbooking!

On the way back up to the car we stoped in Boots for some cough medicine then went to pick up the kids.

We arrived just as it wa finishing and it was soon time for more hugs and goodbyes before Claire and Danielle set off on their journey home .

It only took them 1 1/2 hours to get home safe but Jodie is still sat on the the train until 5pm.

Both will write up their version of the weekend and include all the photos.

We are already arranging our next weekend together and a trip to DLRP was discussed last night albeit after many glasses of wine.

It was fantastic to meet the girls at last and i know i have made to very special friends for life.

Thankyou both for coming. It was just what i needed this week.XXX

The day before am

Cast members,

Claire ...21 Disney obsessive
Danielle... 12 wonderful daughter

The reason for this meet?

to save valuable dibb time and space from all our constant chat and to watch all of teresas dvds from her fun filled emotion pact 07 trip!!

Ok, so as all exciting things go, they always start with something to drag the time out….work.

I guess I am fortunate to not start until 10, so time to get an overnight bag ready!!

And prepare the rest of the house to cope with out me!!!

At some point today I will need to go shopping for treats, as I feel it is only right not to turn up empty handed at Teresa’s , especially as she is being so kind as to let us stay with her and her family.

The reason for the late departure on my behalf, is that my eldest daughter , Hannah has been away all week on a school trip to Strasbourg and Paris, and with her return being this evening, I felt it was un fair to not meet her and at least spend some time with her before I go for some Disney madness.

So, yes, I shall be sulking for my lateness to the meet of the 2 great dibb friends that I have made!!!!

My plans for today are to do all my weekend chores when I finish work and to load the car up so I can leave asap on sat morning!!!!

13-07-2008, 05:16 PM
Hullo :)

I am home safe and well but with a numb bum :spin:

As the other two have said we got on like a dry straw bale with a loose match!

I am not going to do an update until tomorrow because I am cream crackered and cannot do the weekend justice.

I do have many, many photo's of the Kitchen Sink and am sure one of them is pre-cocktail umbrella!

I will say this, Teresa and Claire - Your kids are a credit to you, the three of them made the weekend all the more enjoyable as they joined in with our love of Orlando, Holiday dvd's and Crisps!

Until tomorrow :wavey:

13-07-2008, 05:17 PM
The day before pm

And so as predicted work was very quiet and dragged on.

The only good thing about work was that it was Friday and Friday means 1 thing , mcdonalds day.

Also the numerous texts that went back and forward from us 3 girls made the day more exciting!!!!

After work I filled up pippa with her go go juice, and headed to school to fetch Danielle!!

I have to admit to being gutted to not getting to see the dibb girls until tomorrow, but as I said, my eldest daughter Hannah was travelling back from paris.

Had a call from her saying that they were running late, instead of back at 9 it would be 10.30!!!

I made a trip to tesco’s to gat some lunch for us dibb girls, and some how a large bottle of white fell into my trolley. Too embarrassed to put it back, I paid for it and will try and consume it over the weekend.

Was so pleased to see Hannah, it had been strange at home without her.
And the wonderful daughter that she is, brought me a Minnie plush back!!!!!

As I heard all the stories and updates from the week, I started packing , as I needed Hannah’s overnight back, as I don’t own one!!!

i nipped on the lappieand msn and guess who i found on there.....

We said our goodnights and me and Danni went off to bed, excited about meeting up tomorrow with the girls.

Now, the original plan was to leave at 11. then the time moved to 9.30, but me and Danni were ready by 830!!!

All packed, we loaded the car…….

Hey I even packed the kitchen sink!!!!!

The drive was really easy, and took less than we had thought!!!

Text messages were exchanged, and as we were really early and Teresa and Jodie weren’t prepared, I had to do the ferry alone!!!!

How disappointing, it took minutes!!!!!

And they didn’t stamp my passport!!

The girls were waiting for us in the bus lay by, so as we pulled up behind, they were out the car and we all hugged on the side of the road, as if we were old friends!!!

It was so strange to instantly feel like we had been friends for years!!!!

We then followed Teresa back and I was in need of a cuppa tea!!

Once inside, I had a lovely treat, they had got me a cake and balloons!!!

These girls are just so nice!!!!!
There was a story with the cake, but I shall let Jodie fill you in on that!

We had so much we wanted to do, and look at and talk about!!!!

The scrapbook albums were out, the DVDs were lined up ready to watch, and Teresa’s house was full of Disney things!!!

I was quite prepared to move in with her!!!!

The DVDs from Teresa’s trip were amazing!!!
Robyn and jack did an excellent job of recording so many special memories, and they make a great DAY of watching!!!!!!

i shall let jodie do her update once she is home, as she was definetly queen of the camera, also, i used her camera a lot to take some photos.
and then i shall post some more, about our fab weekend!!!!

it was a real giggle!

13-07-2008, 05:25 PM

13-07-2008, 05:40 PM

i am doing well arent i

13-07-2008, 05:41 PM
Well we all acted like 13 year olds so that has to bring our reall age down a bit!!!

13-07-2008, 06:48 PM
I does sound like you had all sorts of fun over the weekend :D

It was so strange to instantly feel like we had been friends for years!!!!

This has happened to me so many times when meeting on-line friends that I don't even notice it anymore.

The very first time I met Johnie I walked up to her, said hi, and then took a big bite out of the sandwhich she was eating because I was starving  Lucky for me that she still loves me :p015:

13-07-2008, 06:51 PM
And hopefully it will be the same when we eventually meet up!!

13-07-2008, 06:57 PM
And hopefully it will be the same when we eventually meet up!!

It will be, especially if I'm hungry and you're holding an Italian beef sandwhich

13-07-2008, 07:26 PM
Ok, Ok - I know I said you'd have to wait but there's nothing on tv so I got started. I cannot promise everything is in the right order or that there is nothing missing but I can promise a general overview of what we did and, eventualy, some Kitchen Sink photo's! :D

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It was a fairly quick journey down to the ferry and in no time at all we were across the water and into Torpoint then arriving at Teresa, Robyn and Jack’s house.

After a chat and a much needed cup of tea we headed out for fish and chips but not before I had shown Teresa Claire’s birthday cake.

I had spent ages picking this cake from the two that were available, I chose this one as it had the least dents in it. This turned out to be a very wise decision as by the time I this cake had travelled from Tesco’s to my house then from my house to Teresa’s it was looking a bit worse for wear! The slightly squashed effect was not a big deal in comparison the fact the poor cake almost went flower side down on Teresa’s kitchen floor not 15 minutes after I’d carefully brought it into the house!

Teresa took the cake out of the now battered box intending on returning it into it’s original round shape, the board the cake was based on was flimsier than tracing paper and had it not been for Teresa’s lightening quick reflexes the whole thing would have been donated to the crisp eating cat Billy!

So, cake disaster averted, we headed out for fish (cake) and chips …

Chatted to Claire msn for a while

I ‘supervised’ Teresa and Jack building a new unit then Jack rummaged through their holiday dvd box and brought out an oldie for us to watch while we enjoyed a glass, erm, bottle of wine and chatted about anything we wanted to chat about!

13-07-2008, 07:33 PM
On Friday night we headed to bed around 1am secure in the knowledge Claire wouldn’t be arriving earlier than lunchtime tomorrow so no matter if we had a mini lie-in….

Well, Claire only went and set off early and didn’t get lost once! Claire’s earlier than thought departure had Teresa and myself in a bit of a tizz, we needed to stick candles in the cake (after fixing the broken one with 16 years old matches!), blow up the balloon’s, write out the birthdays cards and then take the helium balloon back to the shop Teresa bought it from for inflating all in around 17 minutes!

And we had to eat breakfast first!

But we managed it!

In the end it turned out to be perfect timing as we pulled up near the ferry just before Claire drove off it.

When Claire and Dannielle pulled in behind us Teresa and myself we out of the car super quick and once again it was like hugging an old friend, Ooops, old friends! (Sorry Dannii!)

Claire and Dannii followed us back to Teresa’s. Once back in the house we sent Claire upstairs to pee so we could tie the helium balloon up with her surprise, luckily she really did need to pee!

When we heard her coming down we, or at least I, screamed Happy Birthday’ and I think had she not just pee-d my screeching at her 8 minutes after we met may have brought on an accident!

Claire was chuffed to bits with her cake and balloons so it was well worth the effort of getting the darn thing from Yorkshire to Cornwall in one piece!

13-07-2008, 07:57 PM
After tea and chatting Teresa made us lunch from the stuff Claire had brought down with her, Ham or Cheese sandwiches and ladies crisps …

While Teresa had been slaving away over bread and crisps we decided that the Kitchen sink didn’t look authentic enough so with Claire’s arty skills and my bossy ones we attached a tap!

At some stage we lighted the candles for Claire to blow out (she’s 34 on Tuesday!) been a lovely lass Claire insisted that as we all had a birthday this year we should all blow, so we did.

Teresa demonstrating the potential disaster of a cake on a not too sturdy cake board!

Then after more chatting and giggling we all gathered round to watch a Kitchen Sink been made on youtube. Teresa made a shopping list then Jack checked the contents of the kitchen and ticked of anything already on the premises and we headed out to purchase the remaining items.

13-07-2008, 07:57 PM
Have any of you ever been kicked out of Sommerfield? No, well neither have we but I am very sure we came very close to been booted out and getting our mug shots in the window proclaiming we were all banned from any Sommerfield property for the remainder of our natural lives.

We weren’t naughty or anything, just very giggly, a bit loud and we took photo’s. I may carry my camera almost everywhere but this was my first time taking a pic of a freezer cabinet!

This ones is for Hannah, Dannii spotted him on the way out and decided he was ‘perfect for her’ It’s a bit far away but I’m sure you get the jist!

13-07-2008, 08:48 PM
With the shopping done everyone, well Teresa, was free from driving responsibilities and therefore it was time to grab the glasses and break open a bottle. Bucks Fizz was first up and very nice it was too!

At some point, perhaps an hour or so later (I swear every time we glanced at the clock several hours had passed, we were having that much fun the day was passing at a ridiculous pace!) Robyn heated the oven for Teresa to chuck in some pizza’s. We needed some starch to compensate for all the sugar we were planning to consume.

While the pizza’s were in the oven Claire took both mine and her camera’s on a tour of Teresa’s house taking photo’s of anything and everything Disney related. This took quite a while as Teresa’s house is full of Disney stuff, it’s great!

At some point, prior to the Kitchen sink but after the Bucks Fizz Claire helped Robyn ‘Spoon’ (ask your nearest teenager) her hair and Dannii tried on a couple of dresses Robyn had outgrown.

Scrap booking, lap topping, chatting and giggling followed and after the Bucks Fizz was drunk we went on the search for the 1.5 litre bottle of wine that had ‘fallen’ into Claire’s Tesco shopping trolley.

Eventually, we decided the Kitchen Sink time was upon us…..

13-07-2008, 10:30 PM
awww looks like you ladies had such a fabulous time! It's really amazing how many great friendships the internet has helped create

13-07-2008, 11:06 PM
Wow....That looks like it was a GREAT weekend!!!!!

13-07-2008, 11:25 PM
What fun you must have all had!

Fish cakes and chips? Can't say as though I've ever heard of that one. My Grandmother used to make salmon cakes...

14-07-2008, 09:13 AM
Am I the only one who saw that gratuitous cleavage shot or are you all too polite to say anything?

14-07-2008, 09:45 AM
That was just for you Dawnie!!!!!

14-07-2008, 11:03 AM
What fun you must have all had!

Fish cakes and chips? Can't say as though I've ever heard of that one. My Grandmother used to make salmon cakes...

Fish cake and chips is a very popular alternative to fish and chips but what type of fish cake you get depends on where in the UK you are as they do differ alot.

The one on that plate was fish, potato and herbs mashed together then covered in breadcrumbs. Where I live they are three times the size and are made up of a layer of fish sandwiched between two layers of potato and covered in batter.

14-07-2008, 11:16 AM
That was just for you Dawnie!!!!!

You remembered me!!! :hug2:

14-07-2008, 11:22 AM
Everyone was very excited the time was upon us!

So what exactly goes into a home made Kitchen Sink? As you know we had made a shopping list after watching one been created on youtube but we made this Kitchen Sink personal to the six of us, the basic idea was the same but with extra’s all of our own.

Here’s what went in it ….

Neapolitan Ice-Cream
Hundreds & Thousands (Sprinkles)
Strawberry sauce
Toffee sauce
Chocolate sauce
Some of Claire’s birthday cake
A whole can of whipped cream
And several cocktail umbrellas!

14-07-2008, 11:22 AM

The video camera was working …

We had our cutter-upper …

And our sink …

Here we go!

Well, after Teresa had gotten the whipped cream back from Robyn!

14-07-2008, 11:39 AM
No words, only pictures ….

14-07-2008, 11:40 AM

14-07-2008, 11:40 AM

The Kitchen Sink was the most fun I had had in ages, we laughed, we ate and we fought over strawberrys.

14-07-2008, 11:57 AM
After the Kitchen Sink was consumed we could barely move let alone do anything constructive so the airbed went up and everyone changed in their pj’s and we all relaxed.

We spent to remainder of the night chatting, watching holiday dvd’d, drinking wine, eating crisps (we found room in our bellies!) and laughing, a lot!

All too soon 01.30 was upon us and we agreed we really had to go to bed.

14-07-2008, 12:05 PM
We were all up on Sunday between 08.00ish and 08.30ish and ready to leave the house for the 09.30 ferry to Plymouth.

We dropped the kids off at the Vue as they were seeing a preview of Wall-E and after hugs with the young ‘un’s the grown up’s set off for the train station.

I could hardly believe it, this weekend had gone so fast it was daft!

Teresa and Claire loaded me onto the train and then I hung out of the window saying my good bye’s until the whistle went.

I shall never, ever forget the sight of the two of them jogging along side the train waving good bye to me! It was too funny!

So, in six and a half hours I shall be back in Leeds with just photo’s, memories and an expanding waistline. Oh, and confirmation I have made two fantastic friends (+ kids!)

Thankyou so much Teresa, Claire, Robyn, Jack and Dannielle. You were amazing company all weekend and I had a blast!

Jack, hurry up and get the Kitchen Sink on youtube!

jodie has explained it all so well that all is needed are some pics that jodie didnt manage to get...not sure how!!!!!!

the weekend was a huge success and i have been dancing and singing all day at work, as it certainly gave me a huge pick me up, which is what i needed after my last week.

and unlike the other 2 i am the only one who made it too work today!!!

so, from my own concerns as to would it really be ok to meet up with complete strangers, whom the only thing we have in commen is disneyworld, my answer is yes!!!!
these 2 girls are an absolute scream, i havent laughed so much in ages.
we really clicked and a great friendship i hope is formed.
teresa is a devoted mother, and her children are wonderfull polite well mannered individuals, who were only too pleased to accomodate us and our passion for disney.

as for jodie, she was just as i imagined, bubbly funny and very very good company!!!!!
i cant wait to spend many more weekends with them both!!!!

Ok at long last here is the video of our kitchen sink.

The original version is over 30 minutes long and includes us devouring it.

The full version of the making was 11 minutes and got rejected as it was too long so i had to cut it right back to this version.

I hope it's ok!!!

15-07-2008, 04:57 PM
Ok i lied, the full version is only 14 minutes so you don't actually miss much at all.

Anyone seen it yet?
