I've just ordered from the National Archive a copy of the war office record that shows why my grandad was awarded the Military Medal at the end of WW2. He never told anyone because it was about war and he kept that from his family.

So - now I need to know how to go about researching my family history. I know a few of us here have done it or do it so any hints please would be much appreciated. All I know is back to my grandparents.

I shall ask my Dad he has got us back past the battle of Trafalgar where one of my relatives faught - I will be back in touch matey - it helps if you were a 'stable' family i.e all came from a certain area and didn't move abput much - nowadays familys are generally a lot more disparate

Ask your family, Dawn. Ask each one what they know about their/your ancestors. You may not learn much about past generations, but you will capture wonderful memories of the current generations and that is what geneology is all about.

Record their responses in some form. Actually interview them! It's a great project for you and Steven.

Good luck!
