As you may know, our Seth (now 5) spent the Thanksgiving holiday with us. We had a lovely Thanksgiving day, and a busy day on Friday. He said goodbye to his Da who had to return home for work, and we went on to downtown Disney (or as Seth still says, How Town Disney) to do a bit of shopping.
Saturday was our "park" day and he chose MK. We decided to park at EPCOT and take the monorail over. As we were parking, he spotted Spaceship Earth as one does :D and wanted to "go in that." After a bit of a discussion about how we weren't going in "that big shiny ball" and then on to IASW :eek: he understood a bit better about the separation of parks.
He went with EPCOT and as it's our favorite place, we didn't do much to dissuade him! :D
It was pretty busy, so as we entered and saw the huge queue for SE, we decided to come back later and went on to get FP for Test Track. Seth was a little nervous at the sound of the cars racing by, but we assured him he'd be ok. :yes:
Our FP was for 3:50 pm! We went on to Mission Space to see how long the wait would be. We chose the less intense version, with a posted wait time of 35 minutes. It didn't take nearly that long and we had a GRAND time! The less intense version really has no difference that I can recall from the more intense version. :unsure: Seth as the pilot brought us safely to land on Mars. He was concerned that we had left Florida though! Had to reassure him that Disney magic would put him right back on Earth. (It's wonderful that the Disney Magic explanation still works).
We strolled through Future World and ended up at Figment. We love this ride more for family connections (it was Herself's late G-ddaughter's favorite character, and the original was her favorite attraction) but still don't understand how it stays open. It was a true walk on. The play area at the end is always fun, and our Seth enjoyed being the conductor for quite some time!
We left there and went to sample the tastes in Club Cool. He declared my favorite, Beverly, "good" but didn't want a repeat sip, opting instead for the China (watermelon) drink. :D
Nemo was a pleasant fun ride with a little guy. He thoroughly enjoyed looking at the marine life in the tanks. There was a manatee without one flipper so we spent some time talking about how that could happen. He very importanly told anyone who would listen (at the dolphin take) that the dolphin, "RIGHT THERE" was Herself's dolphin. :yes: (We have a photo of Herself with Calvin the Disney experience dolphin). Made for some sweet smiles from other guests.
The fish tanks held all sorts of unique and interesting creatures. The Seahorses were a huge favorite as were the scorpion and pipe fishes. :yes:
We ambled out of there to our Kim Possible adventure that began at the International Gateway kiosk. We had the UK adventure and our Seth became quite the secret agent! He had to find secluded places to listen to his clues, and had to have us stand "ever just so right there" to block anyone's view of what he might be doing. The entire adventure took maybe 30 minutes, but was the best spent 30 minutes! What a fun time for a little guy. :yes:
On our walks through the world showcase and through Future World we were seeing characters, Beauty and the Beast, Marie, Aladdin, Jasmine, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, Goofy... but Seth wasn't into them this day. He was pleased to see them, but didn't want to approach, so we would gaze for a minute... and move on.
Seth declared he wanted shrimp for lunch, but none was to be found so he settled for a cheeseburger at the American Pavilion. It took forever to get the lunch! Once it was obtained, he wolfed it down like a starving boy will. :lol:
Santa and Mrs. Clause were at the pavilion, but he had little interest. They were the only Santas that we say all day. :unsure:
The drum corp came along as we were finishing and Seth enjoyed listening and joining the group of children called forward to do the pledge.
We wandered here and there, poking into this and that until it was time for our Test Track Fast pass. It took a few minutes, even with the pass, but not too terribly long. Seth was pretty startled by the mac truck bit, but other than that all was well. He declared the ride his favorite.
More wandering, more poking around, more declaring of the tree pretty (although the lighted arch really was missed) and we found ourselves in Japan listening to the drummers. :yes:
Somewhere along 6:30 we all thought we needed a snack. We chose the lamb and chicken platter in the Tangeriene Cafe. The boy devoured the bread and hummus and declared the tabbouli unfit to eat.
We wandered back to Spaceship Earth (take a left at the Christmas tree) along the way paying attention to how the lights on the tree seem to change as you get closer. :D
Spaceship Earth still had a long queue but it was fast moving and on we went.
We then had a brief discussion about whether to stay for Illuminations or not, and chose to head home. It had been a long day, with loads of people and we didn't really want to face the huge traffic jam there would be at the close of the park.
So, home we went, where a turkey sandwich and slice of pie waited. One tired boy then went to be and had to be woken this morning at 9:30!
All in all, it was a nice visit on a very busy holiday weekend. :yes:
