Tink, Skiddaw is a mountain in the North West of England, the Lake District, where I lived before I moved to where I am now :)

no its a hiking climbing area really but at this time of year the mountain rescue ask people not to go on the fells but they do :(

I remember when we were in Ireland we were listening to an Irishwoman talk about the mountains off in the distance. A Canadian (from the Rockies area, but it could have easily been an American) poo-pooed the mountains, calling them hills. The Irishwoman was polite but made it clear that the mountains were particularly rugged and if you ventured forth not knowing the lay of the land you could run into serious trouble. There had been some deaths of hikers who didn't know the mountains.

All that to say, those who know the mountain best should be listened to!
