Quite good if you want to sell an old one or just use another network sim/pay as you go in an existing iphone. Free if you're on pay monthly too!

Unlock my iPhone - iPhone (http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html)

From 10 November, the iPhone can be unlocked for O2 customers in the UK.

Pay Monthly customers
Your iPhone can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and place a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term on your contract.

iPhone Pay & Go customers
Yes, you can unlock your iPhone for a one-off cost of £15. You'll pay for this from the money topped-up on your phone.

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On (that we added for the first 12 months). You can buy a Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month when you fill in the unlocking form. Find out more about the Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On here.

What do I need to do?
Firstly, complete the unlocking form - it will take up to 14 days for the iPhone to be unlocked and we'll text you to confirm the unlock request. Then place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that the iPhone has been successfully unlocked.

Hmmm.... interesting. :mental:

Precursor to the rest of the known universe perhaps?

Tom (:macwave:... maybe the Verizon commercials got Apple's attention!)

Well the specific article refers to the official carrier in the UK which is o2.

Now, I know little about the US networks but my understanding was that at&t is a GSM network (like our European networks are) with a sim card etc. and that verizon was a CDMA network.

If I'm correct then your GSM iphone wouldn't work on Verizon nope :(

Yep, that's what I thought. :sigh:

I know someone who had an iPhone working with TMobile, but not all the features worked, so he traded it for a phone that worked better with TMobile.

yes, tmobile is GSM too but certain iphone features such as visual voicemail require specific network upgrades which at&t has put in place but tmobile has not

A dirty rotten tease.

I am indeed :taunt:

HOWEVER the rumour is that Verizon will be getting the iphone very soon on its own network so all is not lost!

oh pish :taunt:

I tell you, after a few weeks of playing with it, I'm less enchanted by the droid than I was :/ Mainly the battery life, it's a killer! I don't know if I've got one with a duff battery or what but wow it's poor.

The rest of it is ok but I still prefer the iphone :D :D :D

I don't know what's wrong with your battery (but like my iPhone) it doesn't seem to be lasting. Not sure why?

Herself loves her Droid, and I love it too. My iPhone stopped texting... :( :( :(
