Hi,
I am going to take a risk and post this message...
does anyone know of gay-friendly venue that I can ask my partner to marry me again!

Jeff, you have nothing to worry about posting that on here. I don't know the answer but I'm sure someone will :hug2:

aww thanks I am always nervous when posting message like this.
I truly hope that I will be able to renew my vows in Florida!
It would be a dream that come true!

I really don't know the answer. I am pretty sure Disney and regrettably large chunks of the US aren't as open on this as we might like. From what little I know of Florida and some dear friends there are finding life pretty tough at times :sigh:

Welcome to the forums and you've no need to be nervous whatsoever
I'm as useless as the others on this one :( I don't know the answer either but I bet someone on here does!
Hello Jeff! Welcome to Secrets!!!
You can now actually have a vow renewal ceremony through Disney. They reversed there "no same gendered" ceremonies decision a little while ago.
If you want to do it through them, you can contact their Weddings group and be assigned a planner. I don't know terribly much about it, but I do know that it's now allowed and can be quite nice.
Disney is expensive though!
Otherwise, if you wish to renew your vows, you'll need to pick carefully outside of Disney. Same gendered marriage is not allowed in Florida, and there is much intolerance out there. There is a gay based church in Orlando, and they would be more than happy to assist you.
I hope that helps a bit. If you have other questions, post here and I'll be happy to try and help.
The problem would be that Florida does not recognise same sex marriages so therefore vow renewal would be difficult too.
We'll help you all we can though - be sure you are among friends here.
Actually, no one can stop a vow renewal. :) It has no legal status, so it can take place. The issue would be having the renewal in a place that is gay friendly, or at least tolerant.
I'd not want Jeff to inadvertantly wander into one of those horrendously fundamental places that make it clear we aren't accepted.
There is a place on Cocoa Beach, owned by two men, and they specialize in Gay ceremonies. It too is expensive though. Anything of that sort will be.
Well I don't know if it's any help but I found this place in Ft Lauderdale
The Atlantic Resort and Spa
Contact Jami Kirk
Tel: 954-567-8033
Email: jami.kirk@luxurycollection.com
This property has an on-site spa, the beach is located across the street, several gay-friendly night clubs in the vicinity, several gay-friendly restaurants located in the area. Their All Gay Concierge staff is in-tuned to the area’s happenings. This property is also a member of IGLTA.
May be able to help you.
LOL. Yep, Ft. Lauderdale has an active Gay Community, but that's a bit of a drive from WDW!
But they may know stuff about other areas maybe?
Beach Place Guesthouses - Welcome! (http://beachplaceguesthouses.com/)
This is the place on Cocoa Beach, owned by Hernando and Joseph. They are originally from Chicago, and find the area a little short of culture (as they discussed with us when we stayed there) but are sticking it out.
Their area of the beach is very pretty and each of their accommodations has a different theme. They would be a good place to check out if you wanted to travel (but not so far) from WDW for a ceremony.
http://www.gaychurch.org/Find_a_Church/united_states/us_florida.htm
This is a listing of supposedly Gay Friendly churches in Florida. The only one I can vouch for and assure you is truly Gay friendly is Joy MCC in Orlando. The ministers there are gay, and ordained.
You will see a longer list for Ft. Lauderdale, in keeping with Dawn's info that it is a more gay friendly area, in part because it is a larger city, and a true city, whereas Orlando is essentially an overgrown cow town. :)

I am not sure where to start so would need to reply on people here to signpost me. As I truly hope it will be magical experience!
That if I can keep it secret long enough from my partner!!

BTW We are staying at Disney Coronado Spring Resort.
Well, let's start with some questions.
Do you see this as a ceremony? With guests? Just the two of you?
Do you see this as a formal event (in that planning, ect. would be needed) or more casual, where you just do what you want, when you want?
Coronado Springs is very pretty. There may be places there to do something.
Did you think of maybe having an intimate dinner for two (say at Bistro, upstairs in France) for the ring exchange? Nothing like France for lovers, eh? :D
Give us some idea of how you see it playing out and then we can help you. The only real guidance you need is to navigate the waters of intolerance (and WDW is extremely Gay friendly).
So! Give us some thoughts and additional info and we'll make more suggestions! :D

Hi,
It would be just two of us, as would like to affirm our love for each others.
Would like to have formal ceremony as much as possible.
I would love to ask my partner to marry me once again and do it in Florida as we had our honeymoon there so it would be wonderful if we could go back and renew our vows.
Of course there is option for nice dinner together, but it is not the same as having ceremony over there!
Jeff
But they may know stuff about other areas maybe?
Oh sure! But it is pretty far.
Ugh. I did it again. I'm sorry Dawn! I "edited" when I mean to quote. I can only plead congestion. :sorry:

Sorry I can't help you with your questions, just wanted to say Welcome to secrets and I hope you have the best day ever and I am suprised that no one has yet mentioned that pictures of the day will be required  (but only if you want to share of course!)

OK. Great. That's where we'll start then.
A formal ceremony with just the two of you and someone officiating, yes?
So, budget? How much do you want to spend? Disney ceremonies have a miniumum, I think $3000 but the amount changes, so it may be higher by now.

Hi,
I am pretty much flexible with the budget as I have already paid for the holiday itself.
I am not sure if I want it to be held by the beach, hotel, or outdoor somewhere.....
Jeff
On WDW property or off? :D (We'll take this one step at a time)!
Thank you Sister Tinkerbell!!! :hug2: (She's the best, Jeff. You'll come to love her as much as we do).

Hi,
Wont mind having it at WDW but prices does look bit steep so perhaps off WDW but we are not taking car so somewhere fairly locally so we can hop into taxi (not very romantic!)
Jeff
No, but a limo could be. :D
Leu Gardens in Winter Park is beautiful. Not sure how they are with same gendered ceremonies.
Enzian Theatre in Casselberry (just north of Orlando, a suburb actually) is VERY gay friendly and they have pretty gardens. They do ceremonies too, I believe.
Ummm...close... OH! If Lake Eola in downtown Orlando is very pretty. Site of Pride most years. Not sure how you would arrange that though? Maybe through City government?
Hey. Just do what we did. Take a cruise! LOL.

MMhhh any other places? that I can use is small and away from public places?
Uh, yep. :D For same gendered couples anyway. :D I've gotten too far away from what is actually available though, so not a valid idea anymore. :)
Hmmmm...away from public places? Not sure about that. Do you mean something you'd rent for private use?

I'm going to just put in a small plug for WDW weddings/vow renewals dept.
They have a huge array of options available and although they tend to publish prices for some packages, they CAN be somewhat flexible and knock this/that off to get to the right budget.
There are so many great options around WDW. The at-resort options like the wilderness lodge and polynesian grounds are completely beautiful. Completely absorbing for the party itself yet unassuming and unpretentious (and reasonably private!).
The Disney photographic team is also truly great and very reasonably priced versus the other Orlando photographers (although there are some brilliant Orlando photographers should you decide to take advantage of them as well  we can help suggest a few names if you need ! )
We're all gonna be as or more excited than you about this you know

Hi,
Do not want to make things more complicated! I am Deaf so would prefer to email WDW wedding team but could not find any email address sigh
Does anyone have email address?
Jeff
Super good info Keith!
If you want your ceremony to be anywhere on WDW property I do believe you must go through them anyway. There are some really beautiful areas, and not all are in the direct line of public view.
If you want to go off property and not be in a public setting (that I'm taking to mean, having strangers viewing your ceremony) then you'll have to rent private space.
Central Florida Gay & Lesbian Wedding Vendors - Planners, Officiants, Entertainers, Event Locations, Photographers, Honeymoon Getaways, Caterers, Jewelers and Much More (http://www.purpleunions.com/usa/flcentral.html)
Here's another link... not sure how current the info is, but there are additional links on the page that will help you find out more info.
I don't know how kitschy you want to get but there is a local place in downtown Orlando, VERY gay friendly (and that means men for the most part) Hamburger Mary's. Yep, it's a burger place but they'd be a hoot at a ceremony.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and warn you away from the Parliament House. I know that loads of gay (men) go there, but really... ummmm... NOT the sort of place you'd be renewing vows... trust me on that one, ok? :embarassed:

I did everything via email with them from the UK and they were fine with it so it shouldn't be a problem  I'll see if I still have a working email address for them.
Ps. some years later we were able to visit the Disney events team, of which Disney weddings is a part, and speak to some of the people there. They live and breathe putting on events no matter how small or large.

Hi,
Disney have informed one of the wedding planner that I cannot have any kind of ceremony as it had to go through the wedding department and to hire the building would cost $5,750! Yikes
However, another wedding planner suggesting for the ceremony to take place at Meditation Garden Gazebo at the Omni-Orlando ChampionsGate Resort. It looks lovely...
Does anyone have experience of this place?

One wedding planner came up with a wonderful package, it looks like we will renew our vows at a beach during the sunset :excited:
It is a really good package, they are providing location, notary, photographer, decorations in the sand, transport!
I asked my partner last night (I typed a message 'Will you marry my Daddy again?') and tucked it in our dog's collar....

Deafjeff
21-03-2010, 06:06 PM
errrrmmmm not really :-D
we going to learn it together :-)
:D That's great then! You could both learn your vows together.
But why don't you simply use British Sign?
Wow! I just looked up British Sign language! You use two hands for alphabet too!
VERY different from ASL. Some of the signs are same (sorry) or similar (tomorrow and yesterday, you use an index finger where ASL uses the thumb)...
Interesting! I'm afraid the two handed alphabet would do me in though!
Deafjeff
21-03-2010, 07:34 PM
Hi, yes, which is why we are thinking it might be easer if we learnt ASL rather than using British Sign Language.
There are only four countries in the world that does two hand alphabet (UK, Oz, S. Africa and N.Zealand)

Hi,
Yep we do but the interpreter who will translate the ceremony are likely not be able to follow British Sign Language ho hum....
Aha! Gotcha... :D
Now, I'm finally tracking.
Will you have others there with you, or is it the officiant you are concerned with? The reason I am asking is because I wonder if you could get an intepreter who knows BSL?

Oh gosh, that's great! Men do kind of get the short end of the stick when it comes to flowers, don't they? No big bouquets and all that...
The one you've chosen is very elaborate and complex without being silly.
Will you both where tuxedos, or suits? Colors of those?

Hi,
We would love to have real flowers but they are charging us $30 dollars each for a buttonhole flowers :nono:
We are more or less going for neutral colours linen type clothing......

Thanks to those who thought my flower was lovely!
Good GRIEF!!!! Where are you getting your flowers from? There HAS to be a less expensive place!
I know the Winter Garden florist does a beautiful job of flowers and doesn't charge $30 for a boutonniere!!!

I've just read through this thread. I hope you both have a wonderful holiday and a very special vow renewal day. I love your idea of neutral linen for your outfits, and the button hole is very pretty.
Where will you have your vow renewal meal? Are you heading back to Disney property or has the wedding planner got something in mind. Have you booked an ADR yet?
Can I just say your little dog is just adorable.:wiggle:

Many florists will deliver.
Would you like me to make a call and see if Winter Garden Florist will deliver? If they do, then you can contact them and show them the photo of the boutonniere and they can copy it.
They may not deliver that far though, but if you'd like me to ask, I would.

Hiya Chris,
It's only since my boys have been called names and I've seen some people's reactions to skin colour( a small minority) that these things worry me.
But ignorant people will always find something to pick on - that's what I figured.

Sandra, I am sorry that your beautiful children have ever been treated badly simply because of their skin color. I am not kidding when I say that gives me an instant stomach ache. :hug2: It's wonderful that they have you and Jai for parents. You can protect them, and support them when the idiots rear their ugly heads. There will always be idiots, eh?
Jeff, sometimes I think "we" are the last group that is "fair game" to levvy discrimination against. It's hard not to think that way (especially in this country) which is what makes this little haven all that more important to my personal sense of well being.
And by the way MR.KEITH! THAT is MY line (the "never want to be considered normal") and I'll thank you to SHARE not OWN it! :hug2:
