Apple has announced that its long-awaited iPad will be available for purchase for consumers starting on Saturday, April 3, while pre-orders for the multi-touch device will begin on March 12.
While the Wi-Fi model will be the only available at first, the 3G-capable iPad is expected to arrive in late April. In addition, all versions of the hardware will be available in the U.K., Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Italy, Japan, Span and Switzerland in late April.
Preorders for the iPad will begin on March 12, with both the Wi-Fi and 3G models available for reserve from apple.com. The Wi-Fi model will be available in-store as well on Saturday, April 3. That date is just a few days later than the 60-day launch window Apple announced at the device's unveiling in late January.

Interestingly, no news in the UK yet, not even pricing!
I like that in the US you'll be able to preorder the device for pickup at a store, I hope they do that in the UK as well!

Hmm any news on what the 3G pricing will be - presumably you'll need some sort of contract.
Also for lthose of us too lazy to google will you be able to upgrade the flash drive with an SD card do you know ?
oh and :mental:

Looks like a month later for the poor old UK though as usual. So much for a simultaneous worldwide launch.
iPad will be available in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models in late April in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. International pricing will be announced in April. iPad will ship in additional countries later this year.

I think you will be able to do a lot more with it - surfing will be easier and watching videos will be as well - photos will be easier to share and pass around and email easier to compose
In short - I'm sure the real apple boys will disagree but it does everything the iphone does in addition to being a phone a whole lot better - plus a lot else including word processing etc

A girlfriend of mine is a photographer here in the Westport area...I just noticed this new advert on her website:
"We are now offering our wedding photography clients a special iPad, complete with a wedding album from your day, ibooks about successful marriage and other special bonuses. Our technology consultant is always on the cutting edge! Please inquire about this exciting new product!"
How cool is that?

Well, the time draws closer for the iPad to actually end up in consumer's hands. And the hype continues! :mental:
Last Wednesday night, the iPad figured prominently in the ABC sitcom series "Modern Family (http://abc.go.com/shows/modern-family)".
This morning, there's this article (http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1976935-1,00.html?artId=1976935?contType=article?chn=bizTe ch) in Time magazine (online).
And finally, Disney has committed to providing iPad content (http://corporate.disney.go.com/news/corporate/2010/2010_0401_ipad.html) under the banners of Disney, ABC, ESPN and Marvel.
This gadget may shape up to be as big as the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field. I particularly like the last line of the Time article:
One melancholy thought occurs as my fingers glide and flow over the surface of this astonishing object: Douglas Adams is not alive to see the closest thing to his Hitchhiker's Guide that humankind has yet devised.
Tom (:macwave:... I want an iPad cover with "Don't Panic" on the front in large, friendly letters!)

That was the first thing I thought when I saw it  and I'm positive "Don't Panic" background will be available from somewhere
Stephen Fry has an ipad. He's been Tweeting about it since yesterday. I think he has a video of him unpacking it.
