This looks cool
AirStash: wireless flash drive + pocket media server + SD adapter for iPhone, iPod touch & iPad (http://www.airstash.com/index.html)

Anyone know if it would work with an ipad because it looks like a good idea to upload photos and expand the storage if I got the 16gb ipad

Pretty sure it wouldn't Pete - I have a feeling that apple are being very canny about allowing extra space to be added to theiPad -I weas sure you could use the camera connector with an sd card in it as an external flash drive but they have stopped that. I'm sure someone will find a workaround though

*edit* well it says it does work hmmm....

Here's there demo video using an iPhone. iPad would probably work the same way.

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HrVFSopptns&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HrVFSopptns&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Really wish it were something other than a discrete wireless network though. I'd rather be able to stay connected to my primary Wi-Fi network and still use the external storage. If it served things up using something like a WebDAV server, then I could connect to it via something like AirSharing HD on my iPad and still be connected to my regular Wi-Fi network. It wouldn't be an either/or situation.

Still it looks like it "might" be an option. Still early in the game though.
