Metallica - Symphony & Metallica. Something no rock band has attempted since, this was a one of a kind experience for those lucky enough to be there. A full orchestra backing Metallica's greatest hits and a couple of songs specially written for the performance.

I'll go with Pieces of you by Jewel as two, its an album I can frequently just put on and listen to start to finish. I don't do that very often, there is almost always a track I'd rather skip on any given album.

Oh, Yeah! / Young Lust - either of Aerosmith's greatest hits albums (I actually slightly prefer Oh, Yeah!). Sing along after sing along. Anyone who thinks Aerosmith are boring or one dimensional really hasn't listened to enough Aerosmith. I'll also point out that I'm seeing them live on Sunday, and 'cannot wait' is a top contender for understatement of the year!!

Actually, scrap mine. I keep remembering other albums. James Morrison, Paolo Nutini, Snow Patrol etc etc. I have come to the conclusion I can't narrow it down to 3!

:donald:

I hope you're joking, otherwise I need to come around and educate you on all things musical.

I toyed with putting Appetite for Destruction in my top three, but as an album in general, I think it lacks that 'it' factor. It gave us GNR's best ever songs (with the exception of November Rain), ut outside of those three or four tracks... maybe it's just my own fault for only ever listening to those few songs on that CD.

Out of interest - how many of you would go to see Guns & Roses if Slash was back with them?

We're an eclectic lot aren't we?

Too hard to choose, but I'll go for:

Dummy by Portishead
Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

But like Claire I'll probably come back and scrap them and choose another three :D

Hi DEB!!!

You are all doing better than I! My first thought was "top three" of what type of music!

Needless to say, I can't even begin to pick. I'm terrible at saying which I like best of nearly anything.

2. Live after Death - Iron Maiden

3? just 3? of all time??? I cannot possibly do that.

Possibly from each genre and from each decade...... who am I kidding? I couldn't even do that!

AC/DC Back in Black is one of the BEST albums of all time. Anyone who calls themselves a lover of hard rock/heavy metal MUST have this one.

Michael Jackson's Thriller....this album and the resulting videos changed the world.

The Clash London Calling. Phenomenal!

Metallica Master of Puppets......they rocked this album!

Nirvana Nevermind.....depending on your view, this catapulted grunge to the musical forefront.

I swear I could go on and on......

It's taken me days to whittle this down to just three and I resisted the temptation to use "greatest hits" albums too. So...

Thriller - Michael Jackson - pure musical genius from start to finish.
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye - a masterpiece
True Blue - Madonna - the quinessential album of the 80s

But how can I not mention

Songs in the key of Life - Stevie Wonder
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Bat out of Hell - Meatloaf
Parallel Lines - Blondie
Private Dancer - Tina Turner
Bridge over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
Automatic for the People - REM

I could go on for ever... :sigh:

Of course. But the thread said only 3. :rotfl:

There's too many not to just have 3 and I didn't get any Aretha Franklin in there either.
