mama melrose?

wanted to book this for fantasmic but have read different opinions on it from terrible to great! Has anyone been recently? how was it?

:wave: This place often gets mixed reviews, it's sort of like Olive Garden, we've never had a terrible meal but we have had terrible service twice.

We've been several times. Had good food and good service every time. Of course, I do tend to order the same thing. The tomatos and mozzarella app and the chicken ala vodka for the entree. We like it.

Never had the chicken ala vodka, whats it like?

it's probably penne ala vodka and has chicken in it. Vodka sauce is more of an orange color than red like marinara. I like it a lot though I can't seem to describe it lol

I have eaten at Mama Melrose 4 times. The 1st time was a few years back,the food and service was horrible and swore I would never go back again. After a few years and having read a few good reviews we gave it another try and the food was good but the service wasnt good at all. The next time we went the food and service were both great. Last year the food was good but the service was lacking. It was raining outside and the place was packed and understaffed and we waited forever for our table and again for our drinks and food. With that being said I have ADR this August.

Service seems to be wildly inconsistent, IMHO. Food is generally okay; we normally go at lunch when we do go there. I think the atmosphere is really cute, but I can't say it's an absolute favorite of mine. It's a nice change from burgers and fries and we love Italian food, so that's a plus too.

I looooove Italian food so I am sure I am biased.

We did this as a walkup in (I think) 2007 - and the service was great!

We've done this one twice.

The first time was many years ago and it was wonderful! At that time, they had a grilled prime rib that was to die for! :mental:

So, on the basis of our first visit, we booked a second a couple of years later. Sadly, the second time around wasn't nearly as good. They no longer had the grilled prime rib and the service was less than stellar. :thumbsdown:

All that said, I'd still like to go back and give it another shot since I know they're capable of a wonderful experience.

We had fantasmic reservations there today and I wasnt really expecting much given past experiences from many years ago, anyway I was really surprised!

The place has a really nice look and feel with christmassy lights everywhere. Really quite atmospheric!

Soon as we sat down our server Sam came over and took drinks orders which he brought immediately. He turned out to be an excellent server.

We were told we could get anything from the menu with the fixed price fantasmic reservation and even the dishes meant for two just counted as one persons choice!

Great Italian beer :) the food was excellent and service spot on. Really couldnt fault it at all

Perhaps its all down to the server and how busy it is/isnt but I was impressed this time around :yes:

We were unfortunate to have the same waitress twice, she was a horror!! On our third visit she wasn't there and we had someone new and the sevice was great. :yes:

We have eaten here twice, the first time great food and good service, the second ok food and poor service. i try to remember though that all places have off days.
