Our Mairead (mumof2) makes incredibly detailed and beautiful cards. Slowhand's wife does too (she's not a member here though). I know others do too, but I'm mostly familiar with Mairead's and Slowhand's Wife's.

Hopefully, Mumof2 will be along soon to share some tips with you.

Just be careful as this hobby can becone very addictive ...and costly too.
My DW has been making cards for a while now and she uses the pc to print out the verses and inserts.
She uses a Cricut machine for any words or images on the cards themselves. This Cricut machine is very popular among her fellow card makers. It is basically a machine that cuts out letters and images and takes numerous cartridges covering almost anything that she needs to do.
This is where the expense comes in if you go down that route as the machine costs around $300 and each cartridge varies between $50-$90! [Not to mention the fuel costs involved in us trawling all of the craft stores whenever we are in Florida as this equipment is a darn site cheaper over there than here in the UK.]

And gorgeous ones she makes too!

I've got a couple sitting in a place of pride on the bookshelf in my office!

Tom ( :macwave:... impressed, he is!)

aha, my brain does work after all! I *knew* we'd talked about this before - here's the link to what i posted about basic essentials.

Go on and give it a try, I'm only just starting to get back into it after losing enthusiasm last year.

If you do make sure you show your creations to us won't you! Let me know if you need any more help.

I have all the stuff in the understairs cupboard gathering dust. I spent a small fortune on card blanks, stamps, glue dots, ink etc. I even bought a Sizzix machine. I should get it out shouldn't I! Someone inspire me.

You bought a Sizzix and it sits hidden away doing nothing!! I agree with Mairead - get your bits and pieces out and have a play.
I'd love a Sizzix machine but simply won't pay the price for one let alone the cartridges.

I can't remember the last time Donna bought a card. She has been making them for years now. She has the top of the line Cricut plus lots of other stuff, she does all her cutting, printing, etc. She also makes invitations and other stuff. Any of you that were on the Christmas Card list last year got one of her homemade cards.

I saw a lovely phrase on a leaving card yesterday and thought I'd share

'without change there would be no butterflies'

Thought that was lovely especially as the person leaving is lovely

Midnight is a good time to have card making supplies on hand. :hug2:

I always have the best intentions of making cards throughout the year. My biggest problem is keeping unfinished projects packed away in the totes with all my scrapbooking paper (http://www.purplelionpaper.com). I start pulling out those totes to get paper to make cards, see an unfinished project I want to finish and never get around to the cards.

My sister makes lovely cards and it seems she could just make some extras for me, but she disagrees with me on that point. <sigh>

I really want to try to make some, is it possible to do it without buying expensive machines or is that really the way forward?

Well, as Hubby said, I've been making them for years - including before I got all the fancy equipment. A few nice rubber or acrylic stamps, some ink pads, some stickers or other embellishments, and a good imagination is all that is really needed.

I know this is an old thread, but I love card making! Rick says I could start my own craft store with all the stuff I have, and I don't have NEAR what my DIL has. And I got her started...so I'll leave quietly. LOL

I haven't made a card in ages, I'm even thinking about giving up now. It's not the same without my sister. She was my crafty partner and we worked well together. I have a lot of her equipment and would never want to give it away or sell it. I also still have some of the cards she made.

Maybe I'll get back into it when the time is right.

Ah, Mairead. :hug2: I'd wondered about that. I'd not heard you talk about making them in the longest time. You did such beautiful work. Maybe one day you'll make some again. "Sharon's Card Company," eh? :hug2:

Hugs Sweetie. You'll get back into it when you're ready. I've packed all my stuff up and I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to get to it without going out and buying more! Rick would have a cow! LOL
