I am going to go for my second tattoo soon. I just sent off the reference picture.

I have not completely decided on where to get it. I was thinking upper arm, but I'm not sure how I feel about that space and tattoos. I was also thinking about my upper thigh (on the side, but more towards the front). I'm a little worried about the pain there. Or I am going for the back again.

Here's the photo. I will do black and gray. I want to eliminate he background, but keep something for him to sit on.

I thought it was Chernabog ! I don't like tatts on the upper arm ... But this is only my own personal opinion and you of course can get your tattoo where you think it will look best . I love the gargoyle . He is super cool !
:sorry: if previous post upset you . I'm not into hurting others feelings . :hug2:

WOW, FD. That is one serious looking gargoyle!!!!

I have enjoyed gargoyles for a long time, but I like the ones that look more like people and not animals. I think of them as great protectors. He looks like a fantastic protector. I looked for pictures on the net and I found him. He was waiting for me.

Johnie

I like gargoyles too. They are indeed protectors.

OOOH!!! Are you nervous?

Kate
15-06-2010, 11:07 AM
Yep - he certainly is a protector, nobody would dare come near you with him near!!!

Did you decide wheres he going to go? How big do you want him to be?

I want to be able to see him! I can't see the angels on my back. I'm still thinking upper arm, but I have to see where he will sit. Can't be too far down, due to work.

how much do they hurt :/  :sorry:

foreverducky
15-06-2010, 01:21 PM
It's tolerable. The outlining hurts the most, the shading just hurts. Plus it depends on where and your pain tolerance.

But hey, can't hurt that bad as I'm going back.

Oh and there places that I don't think I could handle the pain, so those spots just wont be happening.

Tink
16-06-2010, 12:46 AM
Ummm, your thigh? You'd not see that at work, yet you'd be able to see him.

Johnie
16-06-2010, 01:49 AM
I was shocked by how little the tattoo hurt.

Tinker
16-06-2010, 03:00 AM
May I please suggest either the side of your calf or how about in the front up a slight bit from your chest area or your shoulder? Tinkerbell is on my shoulder and my dolphin is on the outside of my calf/ near my ankle , but about 2 inches higher .
Tats don't hurt as much as you would think Kate . As FD stated just the outline and when they run the color over the same area and then its more like a sting than a hurt . Sorer afterwards .

foreverducky
16-06-2010, 03:45 AM
I'm really leaning towards the upper arm or thigh. I'm not sure how much the thigh would hurt. Anyone heard anything about that area?

Tinker
16-06-2010, 03:54 PM
The more flesh, the less it hurts .

Cool Isn't he from the Disney series gargoyles?

Far far to much of a whimp to have a tat myself

Tink
17-06-2010, 10:50 AM
Foreverducky, if you go with your upper arm, would you have to make the picture correspondingly smaller than if you went with your thigh? I'm not sure how these things work. :D

I saw a woman yesterday with "sleeves." Whew! Were they ever intricate and delicate looking. I know you aren't talking about something that covering, but I thought of you when I saw her. Very pretty, and some dramatic tattoos over both arms.

I just want him to look nice without losing the detail. But yes, I could get different sizes. A sleeve is appealing.

If you did a sleeve would you then have to wear long sleeves to work all the time?

Then again, you'd like to live in Maine, yes? :D Long sleeves are appropriate for a good part of the year!

foreverducky

For a while I want to work in the prison system, so I think I'd blend right in.

Johnie
18-06-2010, 02:44 AM
She could always get a partial sleeve and still be covered up at work without having to wear long sleeves.

I saw a woman at the dr's office who had a sleeve with sunflowers and stuff. It was soooo pretty.

And I do beleive the norms are going to eventually change with regardst to work and employment.

:geekon:

A gargoyle is only a gargoyle on a building it if it part of the guttering system and has water running from its mouth, otherwise it is known as a grotesque

the name gargoyle actually refers to the noise of running water

:geekon:

sorry, my inner geek sometimes explodes out of me :D I fullty appreciate this adds nothin to the debate

LOL. I dunno' Ducky! Sounds kind of cool once you get used to it! :D I like the origin of words myself.

I've seen sleeves that were absolutely incredible. I must admit though, the work in them boggles my mind and makes me REALLY wonder about how much discomfort might (must?) be involved.

I was thinking about this again and went and looked up my tattoo from where i got it and you know what???? It is the artist's idea of Goliath from the Disney Gargoyle cartoon. So, you were right. But disney does not make them as muscled and fierce.

Still waiting to hear back from the tattoo artist.

Will he fit ok there?

foreverducky

Yes, I think he will. I guess a lot will depend on how big he is when I arrive at the tattoo place. With picture I have, he fits fine.
