Someone tweeted this earlier - will it work techno geeks

I have an iphone 3gs on o2 and i have the bolt on tethering package for £9.79 p/m, this is for 3gb... i called them yesterday and they confirmed that it creates a wireless hotspot from my phone that my ordered ipad (non 3g) will be able to link up to. They have confirmed that this will work as it is a wifi signal and the ipad will find an ipad signal. They did however ask me to check with apple that this is okay. So thats what i did.

Apple have confirmed that this will work but say i must check with o2 that they are okay with this!!

Looks like im in luck. No 3g ipad but i'll still be able to go online, on the move with my iphone 3gs in my pocket!!! YAY!!!

Apparently Steve jobs has said No to this  You can do it on a jailbroken iPhone but of course your warranty would be voided.

I have tethering turned on for my 3gs phone and it doesnt create a wifi hotspot like a mifi adapter or an airport express would. You normally connect to the phone from a laptop via bluetooth or usb cable and then you can use the internet through that.

I've just tried very very briefly and the ipad didnt see the iphone to internet share via bluetooth or wifi but I'll give it a better test and let you know

There are some articles today suggesting it can be done with 3G and £9 a month
