Friends have just come back and said that the new bay lake towers dvc is available to buy and is amazing. I've always fancied doing this but was hoping more for the animal kingdom one

Would it be stupid to buy without seeing or doesnt the "home" resort really matter any more? I dont know why it does if you can use the points for any resort anyway?

Home resort is critical. "Buy where you want to stay" is the general axiom, today. It didn't used to be that way, but with the huge increase in DVC owners, buying where you most want to stay is critical.

Home resort means making reservations 11 months out. Otherwise you are limited to a 7 month window and that can be tricky to negotiate.

As for buying unseen... well, with Disney that's not as crazy as it might sound.

Has ALKV sold out? If that is your choice go there.

BLT is nice enough, we've stayed there, but it's not set up as conveniently as Kidani Village over at AKL.

KV is a bit hokey in terms of design, but has more efficient use of space and is a larger accomodation (particularly the master bath).

BLT tries to be more sophisticated (but comes off to a certain degree as a Jetson look alike) but falls short in the use of space. Not a good set up for storage and the baths are small. Don't care for the banquette seating in the dining area either (especially if you have more than two staying with you).

All in all, to each her/his own, but to return to your question, buying where you most want to stay is key, and buying sight unseen is not so weird! :D
