View Full Version : John's in the hospital...

John's ICD (his embedded defibrillator) went off this afternoon and shocked him 4 times and I had to call 911. We were in Emergency until almost 10 pm and then he was moved to the Cardiac Care Unit. They finally seem to have it under control. Our son came to be with me, and he just brought me home (I went to the hospital in the ambulance).

So your prayers and pixie dust would be most appreciated.

I called John about an hour ago. He had a restless night - all the noises you find in a hospital. But his ICD didn't shock him all night. He said his heart rate was normal all night. Thank God. Don't know when they will let him come home. They won't let me in to see him till noon. Gonna be a long morning...

Thanks for all your prayers and pixie dust. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Just saw this Donna, sending lots of prayers and pixie dust for sure :pixiedust::pixiedust:Do they have any idea why it went off yet? Our members have had it rough lately that's for sure. Make sure you rest when you can, all this is just as hard on you. It's terrible when you have to wait isn't it. :sorry:Thank God he has stabilized.

We have no idea why it went off at this point. I'm sure tests will find the reason. I just hope it doesn't shock him again. It hurts him so bad when it does...

They moved him to a new hospital yesterday - one better to handle his problems. Of course, it is much farther from home. I got home late last night and was too worn out to log on.

He's had no further episodes. And they will run more tests today.

I know the hospital is further away, but good to know it is better suited for him and his needs at this moment.

My aunt has one of these and unfortnately is shocked quite often.

Sorry, all. I have no access to the internet at the hospital. And by the time I get home I'm too exhausted to log on.

UPDATE: he's been moved out of ICU into a cardiovascular "step down" unit where he is no longer on an IV. His heart is still being monitored, however. He is being allowed to sit up in a chair, and today he will have his first shower since he's been hospitalized.

The doctor hinted that he may be released today... We'll see. Anyway, he's feeling better. No more shocks. But they will probably revise the medicines he's been taking.

Thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers everyone. They will probably never know exactly why my heart sped up and caused the device to fire. It shocked me 4 times in about 1 1/2 minutes here at home and then after they thought they had it pretty much under control, 3 more times at the hospital. My meds have been been changed and I'm waiting for calls back from my cardiologist and my primary care provider.

When the device goes off it feels like I have been kicked by a mule. Believe me that is no fun. I'm out of work until at least Monday.

Thanks again for the good wishes.
