View Full Version : Pre-trip countdown

Look at my countdown. :mental:

So....

Each day now I'm just going to stick a few pre-trip thoughts down, with a few planning details just to make everyone a bit more :mental:

Tuesday 27th July

Firstly some good news. Did I tell you all that Auntie Jo (Adrian's sister) hurt her back a few weeks back? Anyway a prolapsed disc is no fun and for a long time we thought she wouldn't be able to make the trip. Well she has responded really well and is coming!!!! :mental: She'll be bringing lots of diazapam and taking it easy with the big rides but she is definitely coming.

Steven is a bit worried that Cinderella will remember that he smooshed a bit of brocolli into her face when he was a baby but we've reassured him that lots of babies do that and she won't recognise him now.

Steven has 13 pins on his trading lanyard now. No one has mentioned squished pennies yet.

I had my holiday haircut yesterday. Whilst I was having the colour put in no less than 4 children from school walked past and saw me sat there with my hair full of bits of foil. :point:

Steven is having his hair cut this morning when we can be bothered to get dressed. After that we are going to the post office to change his savings into dollars. The boy has amassed £130 spending money by saving every penny given to him over the last year. Seriously he even got given £30 for his birthday and put it straight into his money box. He also has $150 in Disney dollars thanks to some special people here and a $10 Disney gift card ( :hug2: to daveann for that one).

I've stopped watching all air disaster programmes now. I'm fascinated by Air Crash Investigation but thought I'd better give it a miss until we get home now.

The boy is in the garden practising with his nunchucks. He is not taking them with us.

Tink
27-07-2010, 11:27 AM
Probably a good idea to leave the nunchukkas behind!

We've had one tropical storm... Maybe that will clear the air?

Steven won't know what to do with all that money! :mental:

Dawn
27-07-2010, 11:39 AM
Steven now has $190 to go with his Disney dollars and gift card making a grand total of $350 spending money.

And he has a haircut that Adrian will flip over when he sees it.

Tink
27-07-2010, 11:40 AM
Flip in a good way, or in one of those I AM YOUR FAHTHA Darth Vader way? :lipwobble:

Dawn
27-07-2010, 11:51 AM
Flip in a "ohmygodwhathaveyouletthemdotohishair" way. :rotfl:

When we arrived at the barbers, one of Steven's classmates was in there while his older brother was having his hair cut and Steven asked for the same as what the older brother was having. I consented only because it is the long summer break and will grow out before he goes back to school. Come on, you're only 7 once.

Dawn

It was actually cheaper than his regular cut because it's all done with clippers instead of scissors.

A lot can change in 17 days though :fingers:
I admit to being weary of the rain too for our trip nearly as much as the heat! When we usually go in December, we very rarely see rain.

Wednesday 28th July

TINK!!!!!

Weather!!!! Come on girl, sort it out. :mental:

Anyway Adrian didn't completely flip over Steven's hair.

Last night I repacked Steven's hand luggage for the second (and definitely not last) time. He has colouring stuff, a few little maths toys :geekon: his DS, his lanyard and pins, and his camera. He'll get a new game for his DS at the airport as a surprise but Daddy needs to sort that out.

We still haven't got the bags down from the attic (have we Adrian) so still have random things sitting in an open suitcase on the dining room floor. Auntie Jo doesn't even have a bag or case yet. :mental:

Steven is off to a friend's house shortly so I might rearrange all these things and then repack his hand luggage. Oh and need to order a couple of extra SD cards - 2 cameras and 2 video cameras.

Toy Story 3 on sunday. :D

Am so jealous, got ages before our trip back :(

Dawn

Auntie Jo phoned earlier to ask me how big the hand luggage could be. I think she was actually stood in a shop with a measuring tape but I didn't like to ask. :rotfl:

Friday 30th july

Two weeks today we'll be leaving for the Gatwick Travelodge. :mental:

I had cake for breakfast today. :D

Adrian has been ordered to get up into the loft and get the bags down tomorrow.

Steven has his first senior karate class tonight with his nunchucks.

Great to talk to you mate!

Just a thought though...are pins allowed in hand luggage?

We didn't risk it last year just in case but would hate for them to be confiscated :(

Sounds like you are well organized Dawn. My goodness that is a lot of money that Steven has. I don't think I normally have that much. LOL.

The next couple of weeks will just fly by for you.

Has anyone actually been killed by a pin before?

Dizneyblonde
30-07-2010, 01:50 PM
No but i have seen them confiscated before as they are sharp.

My dad had his nail clippers taken away from him before a flight to Tampa last year and they were just a small pair on his keys.

Dawn
30-07-2010, 04:37 PM
Moving pins from hand luggage list to main luggage list.

Johnie

I don't think anyone has been killed by a full size bottle of shampoo but I can't take that on the plane either

Sam
30-07-2010, 04:58 PM
I don't know I've seen some dodgy bottles of shampoo before. They blind you first then go in for the jugglar. I've even heard they go round in packs with mini nail clippers....don't be fooled. Grrrrr.....

Yes, it is official I have completely lost it. :insane:

Have a great trip Dawn, be safe and keep away from suspicious bottles of shampoo and don't forget the conditioner, this is the daddy of all vicious toiletries.

Esmeralda
30-07-2010, 05:21 PM
Well I can understand the liquid thing but nail clippers????????? and pins? Good grief.

Dawn
30-07-2010, 07:20 PM
You could technically take an eye out with nail clippers if you were that way inclined I guess.

Johnie

Saturday 31st July

There has been this funny wet stuff coming down from the sky during the night. It hasn't rained here for a couple of weeks.

Steven had his first senior grade karate class last night. Talk about proud parent moment. He was easily the youngest one there and was completely overwhelmed by it all to begin with but he stuck at it and had a go. A couple of months ago he would have lasted 3 minutes before climbing on to my lap in tears. Last night he kept going for the whole hour and even put some of the seniors to shame during the final sprint session.

2 weeks today!!!! :mental: :mental: :mental:

I really don't know where this last year has gone it doesn't seem that long ago since you were dancing about saying you were going and in 2 weeks you will be there. I'm surprised Steven hasn't burst with excitement by now :) enjoy every minute of your countdown :)

Sunday 1st August

And now I can say...

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD THIS MONTH!

Have checked the Virgin Atlantic website and it appears we may be treated to a viewing of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel. :mental:

We could also get Avatar, 2012, Fantastic Mr Fox, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Food looks like beef, chicken or pasta.

This time in 2 weeks we'll be in Walmart. :mental:

Steven got a new official karate club monostrap backpack yesterday so that's his new hand luggage. I want one.

The bags are out of the loft.

Adrian got our currency yesterday. :mental: :mental: :mental:

Off to Pulborough today for a bit of bird spotting. Tonight however will be taken up with intensive list refining. Each list will then be pinned to the relevant bag and items ticked off as they are added. Any item hereafter removed from the aforementioned bag will be added back on to the list and then reticked after being repacked. :D

That's bad. Were the cameras all packed? You'll have to remove and untick one for any such occasions and repack and retick the night before you go.

Thursday 5th August

T -8 days.

Off to Arundel today for one last time to make sure the peck pecks are well fed before w leave them for 2 weeks.

Tomorrow Steven has 2 karate classes so I'll spend the whole day worrying he'll break a limb and then hiding outside while he actually takes the classes.

Angry Birds took a hammering yesterday - ipod needed recharging twice. Hope there's enough levels left to get me through the flight.

Spent yesterday evening emailing flight and villa details to various relatives for unforeseen emergencies.

Now we have our currency the dollar is starting to creep up.

Steven has stuck a sign on our dining room door - "Packing Central". There are bags and lists and little piles of stuff. This time next week I'll be lying in the middle of all that in the foetal position. Much like Chris will be on Sunday. :rotfl:

I've just looked at that last photo again. The pile of clothes in the foreground - someone called Steven has added 2 pairs of green socks to it without my knowledge. :rotfl:

Taking Steven to Chessington today for a bit of waiting in line practise. Not taking camera because all media cards are empty and all cameras have new batteries and are in cases ready to be packed. :D

Case 1 weighs 16.6kg and includes about 16kg of cables and chargers.

Case 2 weighs 10.4kg and contains 2 empty bags.

Steven hand luggage (karate bag) weighs 2.4kg

My hand luggage weighs 4.2kg.

Adrian's hand luggage is upstairs somewhere.

Dawn
12-08-2010, 03:22 PM
Yep we're all ready. We leave tomorrow around 3.30pm to drop Willow off and collect Nanny Lesley and then head to our airport hotel. Just 24 hours to kill then.

This is really happening isn't it.

Dawn

Have you done or shared a "what you will be buying " list. Because l am so green thinking of 2 empty cases and shopping in Orlando.

Dawn
12-08-2010, 04:00 PM
Hmmmmm, the only shopping list I have is the one Teresa gave me.

Steven wants a light sabre and Club Penguin stuff and Lego and a sting ray. Need to speak to him about the last one.

Adrian wants a quiet life. :rotfl:

I want a nice holiday where I don't spend 2 weeks saying no to Steven. And maybe a couple of pins.

We have a shopping list for the airport though. When we get airside we need a bottle of water each and plane food for Adrian as plane food generally contains things he won't eat like salad dressing and pickle.

Oh my.

Dawn. :hug2:

Does it *really* say "1 Day Left" ???? For real??? I find myself with a right lump in my throat for you right now. Maybe it's because I've watched the ticker for so long. Maybe it's because I know how much you've longed and looked forward to this trip. Maybe it's because I know how hard you've worked to make it a reality. Maybe it's all of those things and more, I don't know. But what I do know is, that right this minute? I'm more excited that *you're* going than I am that *I'm* going.

ONE MORE DAY!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

It's very surreal here. No bouncing off walls and everyone is just being normal. It still doesn't feel like we're going on holiday.

Remind me at 11.15 I need to do OLCI!

Adrian has popped to the cashpoint machine, the bags are in the hallway and the ritual of unplugging everything in the house has begun.

shortly we will be leaving to drop off Willow :( collect Nanny Lesley and head for the Gatwick Travelodge where we will be meeting Auntie Jo and starting the adventure.

Steven has chocolate milk on his shirt and grass stains on his shorts.
