Insurance Issues travelling from the UK to the EU

Saw this today and thought I'd best post if for anyone doing this. You need your EHIC before most policies are valid:

Apparently they don't tell you upfront, but it's in the small print. So if you went out and bought insurance it's hit and miss whether or not you'll actually know. I'd always ask up front and get it in writing if they are hesitant. Better to be safe than sorry.

The worrying thing is, my sister and I both share the same initial, and they put the wrong date of Birth on mine. We have been to 3-4 places before we even noticed!
