for a christmas present :D

I dont know if I want a laptop or an ipad. the ipad looks better but then I think I would prefer a keyboard and full windows programs.

Has anyone gone through this, what did you get?

I love my iPad! You can take it away from me when you pry my cold, dead fingers off it!

And you can get an integrated keyboard/dock combination for it or an Apple wireless keyboard from the Apple store.

Keep in mind however that I'm an Apple addict. Got the Mac, the iPad, and now, the iPhone 4.

And by the way, there's an app for almost anything!

Do you already have a computer? The iPad doesn't replace a computer but is good as a laptop replacement if you don't intend to use it for anything too powerful.

Ok... should I get an Ipad? This is what I would use it for, coming on here and other websites, reading maybe, NOT listening to music, Not doing photo's, just using it for basics... is it worth me getting one? You know I'm techie phobic, so the simpler the better.

Bearing in mind I don't have a camera phone. nor a digital camera and it took me nearly four years to turn the puter on :( I know I know... it just got dusted, what can I say. Would I be able to use it.

Oh yeah forgot the showing photos!

Nut, we have 2 PCs and a few laptops but they all need to be either plugged in or they run slow, take a millennium to boot up when all I want to know is does argues do that thing I'm looking for etc etc. It doesn't of course replace my pc for photo editing etc but suits me down to the ground. Jon offered me a MacBook for Christmas and I turned him down as I don't need it, I will get a Mac next time we change desktops

then you have bought the wrong kit then havent you ;)....my laptop is 2yrs old i put win 7 on it and it flies, takes seconds not minutes to boot

its just horse for courses, what suits one doesnt suit another right?

so to the OP its what you want to do with it that determines what you buy :)

What annoys me with buying windows computers is that you have to choose a good one with a high-spec and buy the right brand. With a mac every single one works as well as the others and will do the same things. As you say, it's just a case of different strokes for different folks!

thats coz they are only made by apple...if others made them you would have the same problem...id have to pay 3 times what i paid for mine for the equivalent for a mac...dont think so somehow. mine is nowhere near the top spec now...but win 7 is as close as youd get to the apple OS now and mine works great. really fast

The fact they are all made by apple is the reason why I like them  The lower spec macs run so much better than the same spec computer. The OS is so light and works so well. In my own experience I've never had a windows computer that I've liked as much as my macs  I suppose it's a case of you being really lucky with getting good laptops/windows and I've just been a bit unlucky. I've always bought good brands and have always felt it's the operating system that holds them back

ive never skimped on buying poor brands, ivre always spent just over 500 on a laptop for the kids, nigh on 650 for mine as you know i love tosh' ive built 1000' to customer spec images and they just never went wrong. also compaq before they went to HP, IBM, they were as good tho. yes i admit vista was poor compared to win 7 its a no brainer. even our boss sir keith said win 7 was the closest MS have got to macosx i like it its real fast and works great

went itno the apple store tonight at my local mall and looked at the imac, was really impressed with the screens, so clear and sharp....couldnt get ner an ipad tho to have a look at them

A few weeks back my friend from uni had a major problem with his macbook (through his own fault) it was 3 years old so well out of warranty. He took it to the genius bar to be repaired and because the part they where ordering took longer than the estimate they'd originally given him (they've had it for 20 days,) when he went to collect it they told him they'd cover the price and that the repair was completely free of charge!

It was 540 worth of damage, too!

He got it back today and was shocked, he'd already put a claim in on his laptop insurance and was just waiting on the bill to claim the money back. Luckily he had time to cancel it so his premium won't go up! Their customer service really is top notch, it's like being at Disney in their stores.

it's like being at Disney in their stores.

Well... considering that Steve Jobs is now the single biggest Disney shareholder and sits on their board, I suppose there's some logic to that statement!
