A new camera 7D or a new lens.....either 24-70 2.8 or 24-105 4.0?

Mostly be taking pictures of people oh and at Disney! I have the 400d at the moment, an IS kit lens, 50mm 2.8 and 70-200

I think it's the lens  but if so which? Whatever I get the next will follow after my holiday.

Personally I would say the 24-105 because it's a great and wonderful travel lens but also good enough quality for studio work. With IS it means you can use it out and about whereas the 24-70, although faster, lacks the range and the IS.

The 7d is a WONDERFUL camera but definitely get the lenses first

The 24-105 is lighter in weight too isn't it? Thanks

yep it's a bit of a bargain compared to the other lenses. the 24-70 really needs IS to be honest, that would make it a harder choice.

Oh didn't realise it didn't have IS tbh, thanks for your help:thumbsup:

I'd get the lenses now because if in the future you want a different camera you can still use the new lenses with it

it is! It's a very nice L too. It's not generally said to be the very very very highest quality but all L Lenses are up there :)

I find there's a bit of geometric distortion at the wide end, he says grandly , but even so it's my favourite walk around lens capable of great quality too.

If you look at some of the truly great photographs over the years, they've been taken on cameras without 1/1000th of the tech of the lowest slr on the market today and lenses which were poor/cheapy etc.

Honestly we (and me more than most) stress far too much about kit and not enough about the content :)

Keith is right  some of my favourite photos are taken on a really really old digital camera. They're just as good as the ones on my SLR, not for quality just for content.

Did you get it yet?

The 24-105 is superb, the more I use it the more I love it, feel I have to 'work it' a bit more than the 100-400 to get the images to just 'pop' but I really don't use any other lens now unless I'm going nature togging.

It is light as well, and the range it offers is just perfect for most stuff, I'll put some landscapes I did up the other day and Later I did the cat portraits I've just loaded with the same lens

I bought mine from ebay - djdigital I think - next day delivery and a lot cheaper as it was white box - perfect and canon guarentee, just no photos on the cardboard

not to be too off topic but the 7d is epic in pretty much every way and the fps is just insane

You won't regret either! Keith gave me brill advice on the 7d and I cannot begin to rave about how amazing it is, I had big reservations about spending that much on a back but it has improved my photography no end I think. I got it from the same eBay store as the lens
