...after searching for 1 year and about 4 months I have finally landed a part-time position. I will be a new employee of IKEA! :smilejig: I know, I know, my paycheck will want to fly out of my hands and buy lots of stuff, but trust me, it wont. All money is going for bills.:sigh:

Now this part-time position will be in addition to my already busy schedule.

I am still a full-time graduate student. Am still doing a practicum twice a week and working on my dissertation.:study:

I would also like to add that I have 9 interviews for my pre-doctoral psychology internship. :applaudit: Matching with a place is difficult and I will need all 9 interviews in hope that I am matched with someone. Last year 400-500 people didn't get matched. Please keep your fingerss crossed for me. And if you pray, I'll take that too.

I have 4 phone interviews due to money concerns and 5 in-person interviews. It's expensive to travel the country you know.
:drive:

I will be visiting Minnesota, Kansas, Indiana, West Virginia, and Texas. I will be keeping my eyes open for all cute cowboys. :hearts:

Oh, and I will be bringing my camera. I will post pictures once I return. :bounce2:

Forgot to add, I start traveling in January.

:mental: Well done :hug2: It's so hard to look for a PT job with the current climate! It seems that all those who have been made redundant of their 'main' careers are taking jobs that would usually be more suited to students or people looking for Part time work!

Your travel schedule sounds really exciting!

So, not got much planned for the new year then FD?!

Seriously though, congrats on the new job - you might get staff discount, so you could buy a *couple* of bits eh?!
Will be keeping every single thing crossed for you that you are a match!

First, congratulations on the job with IKEA.

Second, a question, are these paying internships you are shooting for? I HOPE.

Thank you so much everyone!

Josh, you're completely correct. We have a lot places like Home Depot around here and they are filled with people who needed extra work, but they are coming from full-time positions that have laid them off.

Kate, definitely hoping for a discount.

John, yep they are paid. But the pay differs from place to place. However, the place is not what I should be making as a future psychologist. I think the lowest I've seen is 12k. And there are a few that have higher 40's, but those are specific places.

Johnie, thank you! Me too. I will be in the furniture section. And they are totally ok with my tattoos showing. Another plus.

I have been for tons of interview and most of them I've been knocked back because there were more experienced people. I applied for a restaurant as a front-of-house member, and they said "You've have got the job if you had experience in a restaurant" and to be honest I felt really dis-heartened and annoyed because they'd seen my CV prior to giving me an interview so they knew full-well my experience!:unsure:

Well done on your job once again, I hear they are a great company to work for

Ah, the old conundrum. How in heck are you supposed to get the experience if no one wants to hire you so you can get it.

The thing is I have loads of experience in customer care but just not food/waiting experience

I have almost all my travel plans ready for my internship interviews. I will spending about 3 weeks out of IL, and the one week I will be home, I'll be doing phone interviews. I'm going to be sick of driving. I have a device to connect my ipod to my van. I hope to get that connected soon. Will need my own music.

Any tips for long distance driving?

Nice to know you landed a part time job! IKEA is great! Don't lift any of those heavy boxes.

I'll be in the furniture area upstairs. So I will be lifting up very heavy tiny paper tags...for people to take downstairs.

I start my trip tomorrow. Am nervous. It will be about 8 hours. I just keep telling myself that "I can do this."
