As one of my modules of my journalism course we have to come up with self-generated news stories that are original pieces not reported by anyone else. It's possible to do this through choosing a current news story and changing the angle or doing your own investigations into something.

I happened to be at the zoo yesterday when the elephant was born. Through a stroke of luck I was there before the official press day and managed to wrangle an interview with one of the keepers as well as get a copy off the press officer of their official press release :)

My lecturer used the piece of the website, I'm pretty proud because usually first years don't get to write their own new stories for the site. It's reserved for second and third years generally. My pictures also got used!
