I've been told by friends not to go to WDW in the peak summer season as you get storms every afternoon.
Is this true?
have you been to WDW in the summer? How did you find the weather?

my father in law went during the summer and he said that although it rained very heavy in the afternoons it stopped quickly and soon dried up. he watched some fab electrical storms there too.

We go every year during July & August and it's very humid and you do get heavy showers, but they tend to be over quite quickly.

I grew up in central Florida and it's true, you do get storms every day (or so it seems). We used to say you could set your watch by them. Noon and 5PM daily for about 15 minutes each. :rain:

Seriously, yes, it storms but they're usually quite short lived.

Tom (:macwave:... don't worry about them!)

Afternoon showers are a way of life in Florida in the summer. Depending upon where you are is when the showers hit. They are generally the product of sea breezes, so the closer you are to the ocean or gulf the sooner in the day you will get them. Sometimes, as catrancher tells us, they are twice a day. Those are in areas that are affected by the breezes moving from inland back to the ocean or gulf.

Orlando is in the center of the state so those showers may come at 11 or not until later in the afternoon around three or so. When they arrive at 11 they tend to hang around a little longer than when they hit in the afternoon. Sometimes the showers are accompanied by thunder and lightning... you'll need to take cover then, but again they are usually short lived.

The one misconception about the storms/showers is that "right after the rain, everything cools down." Don't believe it. Right after the rain/storm everything is much hotter and steamier. It's some time later that the humidity from the storm eases up, so don't fall for that old saw!

Bring a poncho, waterproof footwear and carry on. You'll be fine!
