DVC from disney or resale?

Quite interested in buying into dvc but disney only seem to have a limited range of options which they want to sell me. Is resale usually a better option and are there any drawbacks to this?

I got my timeshare from resale, with no problems, that was about 15 years ago.

DVC resale is quite often done, and can be a bit of a bargain. Be sure if you do buy resale you understand clearly the status of the points for the year in which you are purchasing. Are there any? How many? When do they have to be used, or banked by?
