I have an odd moving question. I will be moving into a partially furnished placed so I will be taking only the items I can put in my mini van. I will be leaving my area, IL, on the 20th of July but will not be in the new place until the 1st of August. I will be staying with someone until then.

All this being said, will my electronics be okay in the van if it's out of direct sunlight for the 10 days I'll be there? I'm talking about my computer, cd/dvd, camera, pictures, tv, etc.

I'll be bringing in things that I think can melt, such as make-up and bathroom items.

Any thoughts?

Well extremes of heat, cold, moisture etc. all bad. That's before we consider the security of leaving them in a minivan.

As long as they're well packed and the van is parked somewhere where it won't get silly hot, cold or wet, then you ought to be ok.

Obviously when bringing them back into the new place, unpack them but leave them a good hour or two for them to slowly reach the same temperature as the surroundings before turning them on

This may sound like a stupid question, but what would you consider as 'silly hot?' It's the summer in the midwest.

If the ambient air temperature is 90F, and you vehicle is parked in the direct sunlight, the interior temperature can easily reach 140F or more. That's too hot! For people or electronics.

For the electronic stuff (cameras, computers, etc.), do yourself a favor. Take them inside. Also removes the issue of theft.

Tom (:macwave:... just my opinion.)

That's what I was thinking. Just bringing those boxes in the house I'm staying at.

Was hoping that I didn't need to though. Rats.

Small price to pay for the additional security and controlled environment it would provide.

Tom (:macwave:... unless you really want to upgrade your new iMac?)

Where are you moving to and when are you going?

If it's not too far away you can leave your boxes at my house and pick them up when you are all moved in

I'm actually moving to WV. Most of my stuff is being stored with a moving company and then they will move my stuff for me next year.

But thank you for the offer! :hug2:

I agree with almost all of the others on here. To be on the safe side take them into the house.

A little later this month, the 20th. Making an extended stop at my aunts before I get to WV. Life is crazy with packing and finishing up school obligations here.

Not yet, I have to gather up his food and 3 beds (yes, I said 3). Also have to buy more food before we leave as his new vet doesn't sell his brand normally, so there might be a lag in time for us to start getting it there. Plus, I have to make sure I have all his toys. He has a lot of stuff for weighing 9 pounds.
