View Full Version : Do you use a Town Car service?

Or have you used one? If so what company did you go with and were you happy with the service.

I need to hire one for my Mom and Dad who are flying in and I want to make sure they don't get stuck at the airport at 8:30 at night. Thanks:wave:

Well if we find a good one I will let you know in case you ever need it :D

I know they could have used the DME for free, but I was worried about how long it would take that late at night and them being tired. Dh and I and the kids are driving down, so we will all have a car once we get there, we just needed a way to get from the airport to the resort.

I have used a town car service, in fact, several times, but to be honest, I can't remember the name of the service. It's been a while. I'll have to actively think about it.

Hmmmm, you know, I think it was Tiffany Towncar Service.

We've used Quicksilver a few times and have been very happy with the service.

My only thing about Quicksilver is the atrocious behaviour towards "international arrivals" where they add an enforced gratuity on to the journey. Tips should be optional not enforced and certainly not enforced against one particular group of people.

I swapped from Quicksilver for that reason and won't be going back whilst they insist on the offensive policy.

That's not to take away from MistikPiglit's review though :hug2: just to say that for international customers, they're treating us differently and discriminating against us and I'm not going to support that.

We thought their prices were very reasonable. I priced up a few companies before booking and, taking everything into account, there was little difference in cost. The gratuity was no more than we would have given anyway. Maybe we are just over-generous folk. :)

It's really not that though :hug2: the point is international arrivals are hit with an extra enforced tip whilst other people taking the same service arent? why discriminate? Plus a tip should be optional not enforced.

When I talked to them about this they said very clearly that they expected people would tip MORE again if the service was good.

Sorry but I won't support that attitude which I think is wrong on every level.

It's simple. Charge what you want to charge and then a tip should be optional to the driver directly based on what we feel the service has been.

I certainly wont use them whilst they're discriminating against me as an international arrival and I make very sure to tell everyone else I know who's going out not to support that practice either

Ok I totally understand your argument. We are not international, but I would like to take this into consideration. So who do you use then? I honestly have read horrible things about every company mentioned so far, so I really am not sure where to go

well I've used so many different ones!

Quicksilver until they launched their idiotic policy.
tiffany towncars many many times..... theyve been taken over though I think since last time I used them
happylimo
floridatowncar
mears

I've had generally positive experiences with all of them over time quite honestly. On occasions one will be late but its rare and mostly they've called me to let me know.

Frankly the last times I've been, I've just used DME which I find excellent!

Ok well that makes me feel better. I think if my Parents were landing early in the day I would have used the DME, but with them coming in at 8:30 it seemed like a better idea to get the towncar. I'll go back to my checking then :D

We used a town car service once upon a time when we went to Universal. I can't remember who I used which is a shame since he was such a jerk.

Looks like the race is between Orlando Limousine and Florida Towncar service

There is so much good and horrible out there about Tiffany and Quicksilver that I thought it might be better to avoid them both. :surrender:

I do know that relatively few of the companies that advertise limos actually HAVE them. Most of them rent them from specialist limo places. I'm not saying that it matters but a question to perhaps ask is if they have their own limos or not. Seems to me that there's less to go wrong if you go direct to the source :)

We've used both Tiffany and Quicksilver, with no problems and great service.

I only need a town car and not a limo, but I agree that is a great question to ask

AHHHHHH!!! My parents just sent me right back to the drawing board. They are not flying into Orlando International - they are flying into Sanford International. :hissyfit:

That doubles the price for Florida Towncar and it looks like TTC and Quicksilver don't even run from there.

We could be looking at DME after all..:surrender:

Ok it looks like they have a Sanford International Towncar service through CBC transportation. It is only a few dollars more than from Orlando International. This might work.

KEITH HELP!!! I can't find the little passing out smilie or else I would use it. I didn't even think about the DME not being at Sanford! and to top it off I was looking at the wrong amount. It isn't a few dollars more, it is $190 to Disney. :mental: I think they might be calling a cab. They should have just driven with us and saved about $1,000.00 but noooooo :taunt:

You're going to find that a cab isn't THAT much cheaper either but yeah, it'll be a bit cheaper.

This guy is highly recommended and he's certainly a character! Reliable in my experience and wont stop telling you hints/tips the whole way  but a very nice chap and someone I'd use again. Just a normal cab but large enough for luggage and so on and bookable in advance

Again, I didn't find him that much cheaper than a town car but you never know

Well thank you very much! Honestly we would just go get them, but it will be 8:30 at night after a few days of driving and I really think the kids would go crazy over 2 more hours in the car.

I really can't believe that this is such a pain. I'm hoping this is not a small taste of what is to come

SOLD!! He sounds wonderful!! Looks like it will come out to be around $130 instead of $190 which is much nicer! I really didn't want the first moments of this vacation to be crazy and stressful for them and it looks like he will make sure that doesn't happen! Oh and we will be taking most of their luggage with us, so it will just be 2 people and 2 carry on bags, so no problem with room :)

I think all you can do is go with the lowest quote you feel comfortable with (after checking for any mandatory extra charges which some places sneak in)

Sadly the options from sanford are rather fewer than from mco

Have you asked Mears to quote? Ask them how much for a normal yellow cab perhaps?

I know mears used to do things like shared minibuses from the airports to disney as well which was paid on a per person basis

I think that's the last good option to check out

Shelly, have you checked out Sunny's. They appear to offer a $175 round trip service Sanford to Disney.

I just did a mears taxi fare estimator from sanford airport to EPCOT and it came out at $108

http://www.mearstransportation.com/services/taxi-fare-estimator.asp

Now that's not going to be exact, sure, but the website lets you book as well
http://www.mearstaxi.net/CabWeb/adhoc1.aspx

I have to say, I reckon that may well be the most cost effective option

I did see that. Would work out to $216 round trip and in looking around I saw that Happy Limo would end up being $182. So I submit a request for that and we will see what happens. At this point I just want to get them to the resort  I knew I needed to do something fast because my Dad was talking about renting a car :mental: There is no way my Dad needs to be driving at 8:30 at night for an hour in a place he has never been before!!

On a happier note I was able to get my reservation for Garden Grill that I couldn't get 100+ days ago. Hooray :D

It is DONE!! :excited:

My reservation is confirmed!! We are using Happy Limo and it ended up costing $180 round trip with a small discount code I was able to apply. My Dad had priced renting a car (and basically letting it sit there for 10 days) at $160, so it was worth the $20 to have someone drive them. I will be letting you know how their service is in case anyone else on earth lands in this random airport in the middle of nowhere :insane:

Thank you Thank you for ALL of your help!!! :hug2:
