is anyone interested in participating in a new exchange? We have the Christmas one and the calendar but there's nothing in the middle of the year, it doesn't need to be pricey

anyone have any ideas?

maybe something we haven't done before or something you really enjoyed? it needs to be something readily available across the globe as we have people from all over and not too heavy with postage, you could opt to just send within your own country or overseas.

Any ideas?

Well, here is a really silly one! Those little collapsable paper folding fans? :D :D  Ok, I know, I know but you did say it was summer!

Magnets, keychains. Maybe post cards from your local area?

Britchick

Johnie

I don't think we have. I'm almost positive we haven't done magnets here. But I could be wrong.

My DH recommended ..... (no I can't say it's rude) I do worry about what goes on in his head sometimes, I really must check our Internet history.

Anyway I think key rings and magnets are good. What about lapel badges or pins?

Here is an example. They come in all sorts and types, from plain to very decorative.

They are cute but can't say I've seen them readily available here

Tink

Quite common here. They are used for advertising, little party favors, small gifts, giveaways, that sort of thing. You said summer, so I thought fan. :D

As I said, it was mostly meant as a joke.

Britchick

I guess you would need them more there!

Lapel badges sound good Sam, or what about charity badges/wrist bands? That would be giving something back too

Originally, when we started exchanges the purpose of the exchange was to trade a local "item" for a local "item."

I believe it started with calendars. A person in the US would trade a local calendar with someone in the UK or other country for one of their local calendars.

Exchanges can be whatever the members would like, but the concept of exchanging "local" is what I believe, made the exchanges interesting.

Christmas decorations are another sort of exchange. They are not as subject to the "local" type of context, but it is still nice to trade a decoration that comes from a local area as much as possible.

I started the exchanges and the first item was tshirts.

Tink

I remember exchanging tshirts, but can't honestly say that I recall it being here. I just remember with whom I exchanged one.

I recall an early discussion back in 2008 about starting up exchanges here, but that discussion was in reference to calendars and Christmas cards.

At any rate, exchanges can be quite fun, especially when the item to be exchanged is selected by the members. My fondness for local items is just that, my personal preference. I don't expect it to be shared by everyone.

What about 'international' exchange? We buy something which can be only brought in our homeland?

Daniel now wears the tshirt I got Johnie, I like the idea of local things too Tink, it celebrates the fact that we're from different countries. Jeff that's what we tend to do..buy a magnet for example that has your local area on it or similar

I do like the international theme. I always like getting something local :-) I can't say that I'm really sure what exactly would be only available here to send.

Not really the right time for choklit either,

What about something with your countries flag on? Or regional flag?

Deafjeff

I took part in a local newspaper exchange once. That was really interesting, reading about property prices and seeing advertisements. :)

I remember the t-shirt exchange. Don't remember how much postage was though.

The problem with tea towels is that we Americans do not seen to have anything that fancy.

Tshirts probably wouldn't be that pricey to send. You could put it in a large bubble envelope like you do with the calendars

Magnets and local newspaper or magnets and local postcards.

Or what about a pamphlet or little booklet with information about where we live, this could be sent with a postcard or a magnet.

Britchick

Maybe we could narrow it down and vote?

What ever it is count me in. I only mentioned lapel pins as we've got quite a selection of welsh emblems, i.e. Welsh flag, daffodil, rugby ball, leak, dragon, well the list goes on.

I'm happy to go with whatever.

Ok...how about some sort of local sports team item? It could be a hat, shirt, scarf (for you footballers), etc. Set a price limit on the item. It could be from a college, pro, semi pro, team or the like.
