it was probably like 60-65 last night...please remember that she isnt in Virginia where you can cut the humidity with a knife and it makes things warmer....She isnt used to this sort of climate!

At 130am PST she was finally in the hotel and settled....unable to sleep....I wonder if I should text her to see if she is still awake....shes only a days drive away from me...I might be safe...

Oh I know Im gonna be a blubbering idiot!

She called..she hasnt cried yet...Alysia thinks its the cheap version of WDW..and Johnie said "oh look at how small the castle is...hehehe

I reminded them both that it took 17 million bucks to build all of Disneyland and it was built on dreams...the same amount it took to build Big Thunder in the 80's....

So...it is 2am ......my time

Everything is smaller. And narrower. And food is way more expensive. And there is no place to just sit and chill.

But, it was dark and I saw the light in Walt's apartment and it was all good :p015:

We're going for the Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour tomorrow morning and I cannot wait!

I called Rebecca Anne tonight and totally forgot that it was almost 11pm her time! THe time change is confusing.

And:p015: just for the record, I turned left off of the highway and couldn:p015:'t find the parking garage. Had I turned to the right I would have seen it.

Tink
14-08-2008, 10:23 AM
It's well worth a visit, just to see the original, but Johnie is oh so right. It's more of an amusement park type of place than a theme park, if that makes any sense.

Food is more expensive and there is not the selection or variety like there is at WDW. The food isn't as good either, or at least that is what we found.

The Matterhorn was fun! (Wicked bumpy though)!

I'm still a bit shocked by the castle. :spring: It was so different than the elaborate structure at WDW.

Sometimes, those little things aren't so little, eh? Like we said last night, I would have loved for Walt to live to see how "big" his dream became....I think he would have been proud.

Glad you and your crew are enjoying yourselves, Johnie!

I love your issue with the time change--now you know how we feel at WDW--and why we don't get to bed until 3:00 a.m. or later our first few days!

I must admit the smallness of the castle struck us as well. I can see how it must have been magnificent in the 50's... but we'll stick with the second cousin in WDW. :o

Perceptions are funny, aren't they Tink?

My first visit to WDW in 1981 was that it was very gaudy compared to Disneyland--and much of Fantasyland was rather two-dimensional, as well as gaudy! That was when MK was the only park.

Remember, Disneyland was the first theme park. It still is a theme park, but like super center stores, our perception of a theme park today is one with a lot of space! :)

Quite honestly, in terms of a vacation destination, I now prefer WDW over Disneyland. But Disneyland always was a day trip for us, and just one day in someone's holiday when they visited us.

I really liked the smaller scale size of DL. I liked that you could do all the favorites without all the walking and park hopping!

I really enjoyed Cali Adventure too and the little walkway that takes only 4 mins to get back into MK is great!

Glad you made it Johnie and Alysia and are having fun!

I don't know if there's a specific reason at Marilyn's but I can think of a couple of traditions that may explain it. 1) the leaving of a small stone or coin to tell those who follow that others have visited the grave 2) a request to the spirits of those who have passed on in the hope they will help grant a wish to the living

thanks for the photos!

I also found this, which given her notoriety would make sense....

Some people will leave a penny on someones grave - particularly someone of some significance - as a means of leaving a token of thanks to that person. This is the same realm as leaving flowers or other tokens on a grave.

Mine too!!! You can live your life to Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler"... you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, and know when to run....Never count your money when your sitting at the table, there'll be time enough for counting when the dealing's done...
Very prophetic..

The Santa Monica pier area is very nice. The traffic on the PCH is from he...well, you get the idea.

The drive through there is very scenic though and the canyons add even more. Mulholland Drive will take you up through the areas where there are a number of nice opportunities to drive through some of the canyons exist.

Need a ragtop though to really enjoy it!

People do it due an ancient superstition that says that if you drop a coin and make a wish, the dead person can help you. It's the same superstition that makes people throw coins in fountains and wells. I presume it started in Antiquity, since Greeks and Romans made these things to invoke protection from their gods. Also, they usually buried their deads with coins inside the mouths because they believe deads must pay an Dead Oarman to cross a Deads River under the earth.
