Hubby and I have booked to go on our first cruise on 24 Jan next year and we've been looking at the cabanas at castaway cay.
At $400 for the day, is the price worth it for any of those that have indulged?

That's pricey, what does it include?

That's pretty expensive. We haven't tried them. But we've never felt the need.
We just try to get down to Serenity Bay as early as we can and snag a couple of beach chairs with an umbrella as close to the entrance to the beach as we can:
Beach entrance:
11538
Umbrellas and chairs:
11539
Disney has waiters trudging up and down the beach all the time who can bring you your favorite adult beverage. If you can get close to the beach entrance, there's also the Castaway Air Bar right there as well as the location for lunch that serves the adult beach area.
I suppose if you were looking for a truly extraordinary experience and had money to burn they'd be desirable but for the most part, we've been perfectly satisfied with what we've always done.
Hey, as long as it's Castaway Cay, that's good enough for me.

I`m with catrancher on this.
I really don`t see the point of hiring a cabana unless you are really unsociable [or a film star ]
I have always managed to find a good spot at Serenity Bay with an umbrella for shade and very attentive waiters to ply me with drinks so I would much rather keep the $400 in my wallet.

I'm a big fan of them at discovery cove but if there's enough shade and already someone to bring you drinks I would say save the $400 too, spend it on the cocktails! Guessing they're quite pricey!

They're really not that bad. Lord knows, I've tried quite hard to go broke on them and haven't managed it yet.

Britchick - is there not much shade at discovery cove? We're going in October with Zac who will be 8months old. He isn't doing too well in the heat here so if there isn't much shade there we may need to think about hiring a cabana.
Sorry for gatecrashing your thread Lisa.
Thanks

Hi Sue, I'm sure you will be fine, make sure you get there early though to secure the best spots. Unless you want to spend the extra and have a bit more privacy and a ceiling fan? Some people think its a waste of money because there's loads to do but I couldn't spend 8 hours in the water I don't think! Have you been before?

Thanks for replying. No haven't been before. We're going to be there with my mum and dad so could end up being a good base for us all.How much are the cabanas at DC? I suppose it will all depend how he gets on in the heat over there - he'll be a bit older so hoping he'll cope better.

They are $189 plus tax or there are packages and we got the one for $229, I thought it was well worth it
See price list for packages herehttp://wdisneysecrets.com/index.php/discovery-cove/227-packages-pricing/726-special-occasions.html
I'm sure you'll be ok though, if you decide to do it I would ask for a more shady one, maybe by the dolphin pool.

Ah thank you. Will bear this in mind and see what Zac is like when we are there and how he gets on in the heat.
Thanks for the info

I think I'd rather have the money to spend, but hubby is really keen on one. He is wondering whether we'd be able to find another couple to share it with as it takes 6 adults, that way it's only $200 each couple

That is still around 20 cocktails.

Rather than that, why not sign up for a massage at one of the open air cabanas?
At least that way, you'd have something more to enjoy.
Tom (:macwave:... thinking...)

Yep! Just book it early if you decide to do it. They go fast from what I've heard. :mental:

We are going in about 10 days ::sqqqquuueeeaaaaalllll:: so i'll be happy to look into this for all of you. I looked at the cabana as well, but was discouraged with the price. I think you get two chairs and the cabana...and I THINK (please don't quote me) that there is a lunch involved too. Apparently they also are reserved quite quickly as they have been unavailable for our cruise for quite some time. :)

All food is free on Castaway Cay anyhow.

It would be great if you could take some photos so we can see! I hope you have a fab time and can't wait to hear all about it! :happybounce:

There are some pictures of the Cabana's on the DCL page for Castaway Cay (http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/cruises-destinations/bahamas/ports/castaway-cay/). Just go through the slide show attached to the picture.
There's also a 360 degree view.
Tom (:macwave:... gives you an idea...)
