I am looking at getting a new addition to my apple gadget collection,
I can't decide if I want the MacBook,iMac or mac mini.
I only really want it for photo and video editing, I will also using it other things.
I really like the new iMac which is due out this month, but then like the idea of the mac mini as it can connect to my tv.
Please help.

if you want it for photo editing i would go for the 27 inch imac. We bought one earlier this year and love it, apart from being very good at what it does it is a thing of beauty. I watch movies and catch up on TV on it too.

I'd agree with britchick.

The 27" iMac is brilliant for photo and video editing.

Tom (:macwave:... If I didn't absolutely need portable, I would have been perfectly happy with the iMac I bought.)

Would you advice the current 27" iMac or wait till December for the new one?

Well, hard to say. Do you feel an overwhelming need for an optical disk for DVD's and CD's? If so, then the current one might fit you better. If you're going to move it around at all though, you might want to wait for the new one which is about 9 lbs lighter than the current one.

It's a difficult decision for sure. The best advice I can give in that regard is to make a list of what's important to you. Then compare the tech specs of the new one and the old one.

Tom (:macwave:... it's a hard decision!)

Oh boy, why is this so hard?

if I were getting an imac now, no way i'd get an older model unless it was VERY discounted indeed

So you think I should wait till the new one comes out next month?

In my humble opinion yeah. They're better in every way other than they lack a dvd which you can add if you need via usb anyway.

Now, the older models (which I have) are brilliant too. SOOOO if someone offered you several hundred off, then I'd do that :) but if its both at rrp, the new ones would be the better decision.

Yeah we have been looking at that, my son isn't at college yet, but my niece is, hoping we might be able to get a discount though her,

As I thought about this this afternoon, I think Keith's right. Wait for the new ones.

I'd forgotten about things like the availability of the Fusion Drive and such. For things like photos and video editing, I think it's going to be brilliant.

Tom (:macwave:... what can I say. I was tired.)

Yes I think I will wait.
Will it still be worth spending that little extra for the 27", or would the 21" be just as good?

My vote would be for 27". But that's the only one I've actually used. I can tell you though that it's brilliant. With it sitting on my desk playing a movie, it's almost like being in a theater.

Tom (:macwave:... bigger is better. Or so I think!)

Go see em and ponder  because its not something anyone else can decide for you.

I LOVE the 27. First time I set eyes on it I knew I wanted it and the 21 looked tiny next to it. Other people have said to me that they wouldnt want to work in front of a slab of screen that large.

If I was getting any desktop again, it'd be that new 27". The "old" one that I've had has been nothing short of brilliant and I'm really really hard to please

Another reason for the new one is the way they've been able to do the screen all in one rather than an lcd with glass over it. I heard them say that it's as if the print/graphics are on the surface of the monitor rather than "in it".

Now, I know this is only me and that I'm weird  but for years I've looked at LCDs and tried to explain to people that my eyes keep focusing on the front of the glass rather than the letters which are "under" the glass.

I'm really hoping that this new process will eliminate that problem since it's removing that 2 or 3 mm gap.

Thanks guys, not sure when the apple store will get them in so I can go and have a look, but maybe looking at them side by side I can choose.
My dad have the current 27" iMac and its amazing so if the new one is anything like that I'll be more than happy.
Yes you read right, I happy woman.
It will also give me a bit if time to save the extra cash.
