I know you're a ways away from Newton but it's still in your back yard so to speak.

Hope everything is OK with you. :fingers:

Don't want to go all political, but I think I will just get ill if I hear an NRA member report that guns don't kill people do...

Thank goodness for small blessings.

But oh, the senseless tragedy of this.

Hi everyone :hug2:

I'm fine. Heartbroken. Sandy Hook is only about 10 miles from our campus. I tried to pop on sooner, but was having trouble logging on, and then spent the next 3 hours in briefings. We have lifted our lockdown here, but there is still a tangible sense of fear and despair among the teachers. I keep seeing our students in the classrooms and I wonder how on earth someone could do something so hurtful...

Thank you so much for your concern. Hearts and thoughts dwell with those affected by those horrible tragedy. :hug2:

Thanks Becca!

Knowing about where you lived and what you did sparked my concern.

It's just impossible to wrap one's mind around.

Tom (:macwave:... just unbelievable.)

The news coming out just gets more tragic with every passing moment. We've cancelled our holiday gathering this evening and are instead meeting with grief counselors to learn how best to navigate this horrific event....

I cannot even express how I feel right now. It is truly a parents worst nightmare.

Dan, I expressed a similar sentiment on my Facebook page.

how best to navigate this horrific event....

I seriously don't believe that's possible. How can you navigate something that defies all human decency.

But I wish you the best in trying. I just wish it wasn't necessary.

Tom (enough with the waving for now...)

You are, of course, absolutely correct...there is no way...you simply do your best.

I'm sure it's my background, but when I saw this I could only think of the psychological consequences of something like this. My heart goes out to those who have been forever changed as the result of this horrible and disgusting act.

Agreed FD, for those who survived, their lives will *never* be the same. We've spent the better part of our day trying to wrap our heads around that knowledge. I just read a report that the first responders were even being given grief counseling due to the nature of the scene.

I've been at work all day. The residents have the main lobby television tuned in to the Christmas Carol station. I listened to the Christmas Carol radio station on the way home from work.

Then I came in the house. Tears, and more tears, and a little boy's wobbly lip.

Becca, I can honestly say I was breathing very shallowly until I could log on and see that you were ok. I was actually afraid to text you in case you didn't respond.

So amidst all the aching sorrow, a joyous thankfulness that you are alright. I can't imagine your Da if it had been otherwise. :hug2:

Thank you, all, for you care and concern. The ripples of this tragedy continue to spread closer and closer to home. My heart breaks over and over again. I have no words.

It breaks my heart everytime I see it on the news. I saw with Liv yesterday and she kept asking me why I wouldn't let her go.

Something has to change.

The chances of being shot dead in the uk are 1:1.5million

The chances in the US are 1: 10,000 based on 2007 figures and ours have gone down each year since those stats. (Ie less likely in the uk)

You should not be able to walk into a supermarket and buy bread and ammo.

Unless it changes this will happen time and time and time again.

RIP little ones

More than one something has to change. We need to become thoroughly comprehensive on control of firearms. End of story.

We need to treat all mental illness as seriously as we do cancer. End of story.

This. It really, really IS that simple.
