February 2013 - Pre Trip Report

Donna and I both hit major milestones in 2013. She turns 60 in January and I turn 65 in March. So we decided a trip to Disney would be in order. We've not been down there between our birthday's ever, though we did go down for her 50th a few years back in January. Anyway, we are going down over President's Day Weekend in February. After checking Disney prices we decided to stay at Shades of Green, which was quite a bit cheaper.

Here is our Itinerary so far:

13 Feb - Depart Virginia on the Amtrak Auto Train
14 Feb - Arrive in Sanford, drive to Shades of Green, dinner at JIKO
15 Feb - Dinner at Flying Fish
16 Feb - Dinner at 50's Prime Time
17 Feb - Dinner at Bistro de Paris
18 Feb - Dinner at BE OUR GUEST
19 Feb - Depart Stanford on the Amtrak Auto Train
20 Feb - Arrive Home

Billie, we've done the train ride before, normally a bit later in the month of October or early November. The first time we did it we paid extra for a sleeping compartment and neither of us got much sleep. Last time we did upper coach seats, they stretch out and we didn't feel the bumps anywhere near as bad.

Have you stayed at Shades of Green before?

We've only visited the resort to pick up tickets. We've never stayed there. We realize we won't have all the privileges we'd have when staying at a "regular" WDW resort, but the price was right and we'd talked about before. Since we aren't down there for an extended visit, I think we can do without all the things that make staying in a WDW resort attractive to us.
