Ive heard good things about these two places especially jiko but is it very themed? Some of the party just wont want things with a spicy taste

I don't think it's spicy at all but i guess some would. There are some plain things like chick nuggets and fries but i've never had them- people say they are good but it's a lot of money to pay for soemthing like that!

I don't think I'd say spicy exactly, I would say it has an intentional african flavour which is very distinctive and certainly not plain. I'm not sure that helps you at all though

I second what Keith said.
I definitely don`t do spicy food yet I`ve always enjoyed dining there.

I haven't tried Jiko but I love Boma and I don't like spicy food. The chefs are very good, if you tell them what you like and don't like they will talk you through the selections, they got it spot on with me. :D

It's spicy-tasty not spicy-hot - but lots of selection so you should find something for everyone.
I love Boma, can't wait to go back!
There are some curry dishes. Potatoes with Afritude have curry on roasted potatoes. But it's not a hot curry. There are cinnamon and other savoury spices along those lines. Cardamom, fennel, cumin... some things like pap are truly bland enough to give a baby. (A white cornmeal hot dish). There is roasted meat that won't be overly seasoned. There is roast chicken. It's nice too.
If you simply don't like the taste of something give it a pass.
Oh, meant to say I'm talking about Boma.
As for Jiko, you can ask for the sauces to be omitted in many cases. One of my favorite dishes there is the lamb shank. Very savory, but not burn your mouth spicy hot at all.

The zebra domes aren't spicy at all

Mmmmm...zebra domes....
Actually African food is quite bland, spicy wise. I used to work with a Kenyan therapist and his wife would often send in dishes for us to try. Nothing is spicy hot, but just wonderful subtle flavors. But not what I would call "spicy"...

We have only been to Boma. I wouldn't say that it wasn't very spicy at all, some very nice flavours but not spicy hot. I have a fussy eater (DS2) and he found plenty to eat that was plain.

You know Tink, as much as I love lamb, I don't believe I have ever tried this there. Must remember to do so. For some reason I tend to eat whatever fish they have on special at the time.
