In advance of the upcoming changes to the Prohibited Items List, effective on the 25th April 2013, some sporting equipment will be permitted in carry on luggage.

Small novelty or toy bats are included in the changes and can now be transported as part of carry-on luggage.

Bats 24 inches or shorter in length or 24 ounces or less.
Bats longer than 24 inches and less than 24 ounces

Not Permitted:

Full-size baseball, softball and cricket bats are prohibited items in carry-on luggage and must be placed in checked baggage.

Bats that are more than 24 inches in length and weigh more than 24 ounces

The following sporting equipment is included in this change and can now be carried through airport security: billiard cues, ski poles, hockey sticks and lacrosse sticks golf clubs (limited to two).

Do you think that these items should be allowed as carry on?

Whats the point in putting in the restrictions in the first place if a few years down the line they lift them. Theres a reason the restrictions were put there in the first place !!!!

Seems kind of stupid when on board luggage space is so restricted in the first place.

I find one of those small bats to be much more dangerous than a pen knife. It's the size of a billy club and could really do some damage if someone were to strike a person (particularly in the head) with it. Same for the other sports "sticks."

Does seem pretty darn weird...
