Walt Disney World has announced that from the 20th March 2013, Annual Passes will begin converting to the new plastic Passes with the RFID chip.

Any new purchases or renewals of an Annual Passe will automatically be given the RFID Passe. The good news is, that if you are a current Annual Passholder you have between the 20th March and the 19th May to convert your curren Passe at The Odyssey Center in Epcot. Guests will need their current Annual Pass and a valid photo ID to make the conversion. This is a voluntary process and the current paper Passes will still be accepted until they expire.

The new Passes will be different to the current version as the RFID Passes are plastic and will have a green background. On the background, Passholders who get free parking will have an orange stripe, and Passes that do not include parking will have a black stripe.

I don't know if this includes Florida Resident Annual Passes, but I assume it will be the same for these.

FINALLY an end to the stupid flimsy paper annual passes! I've never liked them. Amazes me that you can check into a disney value resort for a couple of nights and get a nice plastic card with your park tickets on, and yet an annual pass is a rubbish bit of thin card.

Of course, it's even more important now with the RFID stuff. We go in early may and the passes run out mid may, wonder if they'll get annoyed if I try and transfer for the 2 weeks we have left on the passes

It's Disney they might grit their teeth, but they will still change them for you

I thought that all AP holders benefited from free parking.

Well it would seem as though Florida Residents Annual Passes are included as well

Seasonal Pass, Weekday Select Pass and Epcot After 4 Pass will be issued with the black stripe as these passes do not include free parking. All other passes will have the orange stripe which includes free parking.

Yep, Florida Resident passes (annual) and all other APs are free parking. Seasonal passes (blacked out dates, about 180 days of entry) and other limited but yearly passes do not get free parking.

Yayayayayayayay for a more durable AP! This seems like a MUCH better use of those chips then putting them on the bottom of cups in the food court to monitor soda usage!

I think the chips are going to be everywhere before long, they will probably tag you when you enter the park

And we'll be implanted with a chip at birth soon, back of the neck or maybe wrist would be more useful

Pfft. There is no such thing as privacy. We are all tracked by our phones, debit cards, loyalty cards, etc

Sorry my inner conspiracy theorist had to let loose :-(

I always hear people complain about the AP's being flimsy but I've never had an issue with mine.

I have a regular AP and have always had free parking.

That`s very true.
Many`s the time that I`ve tried to rip up my expired AP`s with little or no success at all.
