View Full Version : Opinions about Restaurant Reviews

As you have probably all seen by the menus that keep appearing, I am updating the menus on our main site. One thing that came to mind whilst I've been doing this, was that we could have threads or even a sub forum where we can give our opinions and reviews on the various restaurants at the Parks and Resorts at Disney World.

Maybe we could work out a Q & A type thing where we rate the service, food, location, ambiance, a description, photos etc.

What do you think, is this something you would like to see on the forums, would you find it helpful?

What sort of things would you like to know if you were looking for reviews.

Your opinions mean a lot to us, so please let us know :D

This is a great idea. Several of us already provide reviews as part of our trip reports but here we could do it by restaurant and you could see the reviews everyone wrote for a particular restaurant in one place.

great idea IMHO

I see sites with reviews on all over but it's never really obvious where to find them. They never seem to be in an easy to find place on the site/forums

John your excellent reviews are what got me thinking it might be good idea.

I like that idea and it would give a real community feel where members contribute :wiggle:

Brilliant idea!! I think it would bring so much dimension to the menus!

I would like that a lot Wendy. I love my food and there is nothing I like better than reading about other peoples' experiences and listening to their opinions.

Oooo love this idea - sort of like a trip advisor type thing but for food in WDW, that's my kind of place :)

Great idea! I'll happily help with some reviews when we go in August - could even get Ben doing video ones :D;)

I like the idea. We will be there in May. No table service meals booked but we can certainly do reviews of counter service, snacks and the flower and garden festival offerings :-)

Glad you like the sound of it :D

What type of theme would you like to see  we could just add another section to the forums and have a new thread for each restautant or kiosk or we could go for something completely different.

I was thinking of an introduction about the restaurant, with a photo and a link to the menu/s, we could then write our reviews.

Ideas on a postcard please

Yes, I find the Trip Advisor style very useful. Reviews connected to information about the restaurant (photo if possible, menu, location...). Scroll down to read the reviews type of thing.

Ratings by stars
Food Quality
Service
Atmosphere
Value for price paid

That sort of thing... I love the idea, can you tell? :D But then, I'm a trip advisor reviewer (there's a surprise  ) so that's what I'm most familiar with.

Hard to believe this hasn't happened yet! I think it's a great idea. I rely a lot on what experiences others have had when looking for new restaurants. You don't ever want to take a chance on a place you know nothing about, especially when you're paying so much at a place like Disney! I'd love to contribute. :)

Britchick

I think it definitely needs sections like Tink noted, that way if people don't want to they don't have to write reams. We could have different sections for each type of restaurant...eg amount of time spent with characters in a character restaurant. Would be interested to see which restaurants come out tops!

Tink

Oh, Brit! That's a great addition to a template. Is it a character meal, and how long was the interaction.

I think if we had a general format of "domains" to address in each review, the reviews could be somewhat standardized, and include important data in each review.

Thank you for the suggestions :D keep em coming  the more the merrier :D

Would you like just Counter Service and Table Service Restaurants or the kiosks and carts as well?

Suebeattie
13-04-2013, 10:09 AM
The kiosks could be quite handy as some people might just want somewhere for a quick snack.
Possibly not a huge priority :D

maybe start off with the counter and table then carts could potentially be added later?

I think including any place where you can get anything to eat or drink should be included. Folks really do want to know if that $10 turkey leg is worth it.

Every time I see someone eating one of those things now, I picture a $10 bill.

I would say just counter and table service

Are there menus for the resorts? Was just having a look, and couldn't spot them in the 'menus' section on the main site.

Sadly not yet Vikki, I'm hoping they will be up by the beginning of May, I'll let you know when they are there.

Instead of a "star level" rating system, perhaps we could issue them based on a "Mickey Bar" rating system ;-)

We're trying like mad to find some software that would provide a rating system but its all pretty complex stuff really

Do you think we need to find something or should we just do a main post in the forum describing the place:

BOMA - at animal kingdom lodge
PHOTO HERE
DESCRIPTION HERE

and then have a simple template we fill in to do a review? so we just copy it and do a reply to the main post and use the template to fill in the review..

Date & time of visit: 12/12/12 18:30
Party: 2 adults, 2 kidlets
Ratings:
Quality of food: **** 4 mickeybars
Service: *** 3 mickeybars
Overall: **** 4 mickeybars

Review itself:-
blah blah blah blah blah

Could we have something about whether or not the reviewer used a dining plan or paid real cash money.

Yes because that could skew the results as to whether you think it's good value or not

Can we put pictures in there too?

Vikki

Sadly not yet Vikki, I'm hoping they will be up by the beginning of May, I'll let you know when they are there.

It's not just me not being able to find them then ;)

I like the idea of saying if you've used the DDP.

I know that for us one of the most important things is variety in kids meals, we scour menus to make sure they're not just eating chicken strips!

Wendy
14-04-2013, 08:35 AM
Dawn, photos would be posted as well and I love the idea of the DDP being included as well.

How big a difference would it make if it was web based on the main site and there was a link to it from the forums? As Keith said its difficult to find what we need to fit into the forums :sigh:

We are definitely going to do this though

It wouldnt make a difference to me :D. So would it be within the main secrets website?

Wendy

It would be on the main Secret's site Sue.

In a perfect world, we could have it forum/web based so that both are updated when someone writes a review, but I think I'm hoping for too much

We have tried a forum based one, but it doesn't give us the flexibility to make the changes we want to. This is why we are looking at web based as an alternative. The only downside I can see to this is that there won't be a notification on the forums unless one is added manually and that will probably be a chore.

We aren't going to give up trying to find something though, even if it does drive us crazy

IMHO, if we include whether or not one is on the DDP then we need to specify which DDP. Are we talking free dining or what level of DDP?

Yes that's what we are looking for, but it would probably have to be off forum and on the main site :sigh:

Perhaps a link on the forums to the review section of the main site.

I think its a great idea!

Also, if we could add... MUST TRY at this restaurant

Some restaurants are know for a particular dish, or if you have gone and loved something it would be great to find it all in one thread :)

I'm really sorry and I think I'll hide very quickly after making this post.
i was on the "one that shall not be named" forum/website and they have a restaurant review on there - you probably know about this already but if not might be worth a look to see how they have set it up.
right I'm off now lol

Hi folks, just to let you know that Keith and I are still looking for something that would meet most of your suggestions. Unfortunately, as with everything some ideas just won't be possible :sorry:

One thing that we are having a problem with is finding a program that will allow people leaving reviews to post pictures. Some basic pictures can be posted in the original thread where the information of the restaurant are shown, but that is all.

Would this be a big problem not being able include photos
