for this terrible birthday I'm about to have. Yes, this is not the day I would have planned if I had the choice. As it turns out I will be spending my birthday taking my puppy to the vet to be put down :sorry: We are beyond heartbroken, but we don't have any choice. I don't think I could have asked for a worse birthday gift, but we are trying to hold it together for now. Any pixie dust would be appreciated :sigh:

He has cancer, which I guess is typical in the Malamute breed. He had surgery a year ago to get rid of a mass on his leg and it has been downhill ever since. He didn't heal very well and we have been going back and forth with antibiotics and Prednisone this entire time. He is getting more "cysts" and now they have started to burst and cause more infection. He is 11 and so even if they were comfortable doing surgery (which they are not), they don't know if it would do him any good at this point.

It is time, but I can't wrap my brain around it. It is a sad day..

:hug2: Thinking of you all.
Thank you for giving him peace. Better a day too soon than a day too late. He knows you love him and this is the ultimate act of kindness xxx

Thank you everyone. It is done and he is sleeping.

The kids are heartbroken. Marc keeps saying he will never get to pet Dakota again. So very hard, but there is a sense of peace as well.

Thank you for the support..it helps! :hug2:

You gave him the first greatest gift; your loving home. You gave him the next greatest gift; peaceful journey onward.

A hard birthday for you, but a compassionate and loving gift for the beautiful Dakota.

Shelly he is a gorgeous dog. I'm sure you and the kiddos had a great time with him. In time you will indeed get over his loss but I don't think you will ever forget him.

Thanks everyone :hug2: Each day is better than the last and each time I see a dog I :sigh: a little bit!

It will be awhile for us. I think we will be waiting until Anthony gets a little older before we head down that road again

I'm so sorry Shelly. I'm always amazed on how something covered in fur can be so imbedded into our hearts. But then, I can't imagine a world where that didn't happen.
