Just for planning purposes, if we want to meet all the characters at crystal palace, liberty tree tavern and 1900 park fare, how long would we expect to be there for?
I'd give it at least an hour. We always take much longer with character meals because it interferes with eating!

it really does doesnt it
Yes, yes it does!
Especially with children! :D :D
On average, about 1.5 hours from the time you enter the restaurant until you leave. CP & 1900 Park Faire are buffet service, so you serve yourself between sessions with the characters. At LTT the food is served family style, so you just don't eat for a bit when the characters come around.
I would allocate about 2 hours from the time of your ADR (sometimes have to wait to be seated), plus time to arrive at the venue.

We had 3 kids last time - Crystal Palace about 90 minutes, Breakfastasaurus 1 hour, Garden Grill about 90 again and had great character interaction - Mickey sat at our table and helped my neice with her puzzle sheet. 1900 Park Fare - 2 hours. Was our last night dinner and the buffet was awesome the characters were great - Cinderella took an age to get to us as she had to fight off about 100 little girls dressed as Cinderella.

We always get first seating at breakfast at 8am and are always out for when the park opens at 9am. I think it is quicker with the first seating as you get the characters on their first round and you usually see one after another in quick succession, which means you can then eat in a more relaxing manner as you aren't worrying about missing one while you are at the buffet.
