Has anyone seen this yet? I just saw it this evening and it was wonderful, everything I hoped it would be.

Can't wait to see it.
It will be our next family outing and probably our Christmas film this year.

Just got back from seeing this one here today.

What a wonderful movie! :mickeybounce:

Can't remember seeing one I enjoyed as much as this in a very long time! Most anxious to add this to my collection once it comes out on digital.

I don't think the release date has been announced yet. I'd expect it to be just before Easter for a pre-Christmas release.

That seems far too long away! :-D

As part of my Christmas present from Jon, he took me to see this last week (he HATES sitting through movies). It was brilliant. Truly.

I want to know so much more about P. L. Travers now...

I love the bit where Walt goes to her home to speak with her. I saw this article on NPR today and it made me think about what he said: http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/01/01/258674011/editing-your-lifes-stories-can-create-happier-endings?utm_content=socialflow&utm_campaign=nprfacebook&utm_source=npr&utm_medium=facebook

Most internet searches are saying March/April for DVD release.
It's going to be a long winter!

great minds and all that, since seeing the movie, I've consumed just about everything I could find about her.

Fascinating life really, certainly not an easy woman to get to know but she knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to push back against societal pressures to get it! Certainly for a single woman, almost certainly gay, to adopt a child in that time period would have been a big thing.. then again I thought it was funny that she tried to adopt her 16yr old maid who by all accounts had a fine family who were rather shocked and said no LOL followed by her firing the maid. I mean, definitely a determined woman who knew her own mind.

I was thinking about how horrified she was by the whole disneyfication of mary poppins. In a way, it was more a traditional hollywood smoothing over of any rough edges and a tried and tested happy ending. Walt obviously got his way on that but then thinking back to Florida and Disney world, Walt's idea for that was, as I understand it, not a theme park at the start. He wanted to genuinely build out EPCOT as a proper community but his brother and all the accountants basically said well you can't, the only way you could afford that would be to build Disneyland but over in florida to get enough money for your community. Of course Walt died and EPCOT then itself got the Hollywood/Disney treatment and is the theme park we have today rather than the experimental community Walt wanted. So in a way, Walt's plans suffered in the same way that Travers' Marry Poppins did. I don't know that she cared enough about Disney to notice or care about the parallel but what goes around......

Fascinating life and fascinating story

I read some things about Travers. One says that she was supposed to adopt twins but then decided she would only adopt one boy. She never told her son that he was adopted.

Her early life had a huge impact on her. She would make a great psychological case study

The movie was brilliant! I cried through the whole thing.

Interestingly enough, Baleigh actually cried more than I did (unheard of!). You can just never know what will impact a person, can you...

I think Tom Hanks did a phenomenal job as Walt. Everyone in the movie was so good but he truly embodied Walt. The cough did me in :-(

Even Jon had to admit Hanks did an admirable job as Walt. And he's not a fan of Tom Hanks in general.

I loved it all. Every moment.

hahahaha! Was the theme song located on YouTube so that you could tell him that the entire premise is in the song??? Cause that's what I had to do

The documentary I saw said those exact things. It also hinted that she may have been gay and she lived with a friend for a while. Of course in that day she would have had to keep it hidden.

It hinted at male and female companions so she may well have been bisexual

I LOVED it! As an added, Extra Magic opportunity: I had never seen Mary Poppins (GASP) before seeing Mr. Banks. I felt right at home with the characters as development moved along, not knowing what was next. I did purchase the anniversary edition Blu-Ray and watched it in the days following.

I really liked! It was definitely not like any movie I had ever seen. I loved noticing little things I had seen or heard in Mr. Banks. I was surprised how long it was for a movie from that era.
