After the sake in Mexico, Maelstrom in Norway and Mulan in China, we are now in Germany.

I can guess what those of us with a sweet tooth will like :D

Are there any hidden gems in Germany, what do you like or dislike, have you got photos to share.

i'm not really keen on German food (apart from sausages and black forest gateaux!) but love German beer. I also like the entertainment at the Biergarten. I don't really like sharing a table with people, we usually either get the people who can't for the life of them even say hello or the stalkers!

Well now! We've had some rollickin' good times in Germany! Haven't been there for a meal in some time, but always enjoyed ourselves whenever we did go. One of our earliest memories is of the NYE that we had dinner there at 6:00 pm and came out into the WS to shoulder to shoulder people! That was the year they shut down EPCOT to further entry.

I've loved the sausages there, the lovely schnitzel, the spaetzele, the super delicious cherry tart dessert, and even their green beans! Herself LOVED the sauerbraten! It used to be lower priced than the other dinner buffets making it one of the very best values in WDW.

One year they were serving kirsch in chocolate cups. (NYE). That was a pretty amazing experience.

The mulled wine tastings, the regular wine tastings… we still have a number of the little glasses they used to let you keep for the price of a small wine. Too much fun.

Still love the pretzels here and have really enjoyed anything we've gotten from the little Sommerfest walk up kiosk, too.

Music was good, and the servers were fun. Good times. Good times! Ein, zwei, ZUFFA! PROSIT!! :D

Having lived in Germany for 13 years I can honestly say that this is one of my favorites. I love the German Wine, The German Bier, the wurst, the Romantische Strasse trains. the pretzels, the sweet shop, etc. I'm not totally enamored of the Biergarten, if for no other reason, that I think they Americanize their food too much. But I find that with most of the restaurants around the World Showcase.

We always end up in Der Teddybar. Since my DW is a doll and teddy bear collector, it's the one place she absolutely has to stop. She was sad when Engel-Puppen left after Helmut Engels passed away but she still has to stop in there each visit.

Tom ( :macwave:... she likes her Steiff too!)

The Skp clan finds Germany a bit of hit and miss...mostly miss. We may stop from time to time for a nice German beer, and pretzle, but not a must see for us. Think the reason is that it is too much like our Bush Gardens here in Virginia. Seems to be almost the same menu and shows and set up with the long tables in the Festhaus. It is kind of pretty to look at though.

I'm such a big fan of the Biergarten. It definitely isn't gourmet but it is decent buffet food and so far we have had three good visits there. Rushing off to the hospital now but will see if I have any decent food photos to upload later.

We love Germany. I love the Karamell Kuche shop...I could just stand there and *sniff* for ages :) Jon, of course, loves the beer. He was desperately disappointed when they took away his favorite beer - the Optimator. Heartbroken really.

I also love German beer and I really like the Pavilion itself . I only ate at Biergarten once and it is a bit of a funny story. It was about 12 years ago and we brought my mother with us on this trip to help watch our infant daughter while we did the rides with our son. So one day we are walking thru the world showcase and a fierce storm is approaching with some nasty thunder and lightening. At this time we are looking for shelter and we happen to be in Germany. We are undecided if the food is something that we would enjoy so my mom decides that she will go in and check out the buffet and see if it is edible, problem.... it's about 5 minutes later and she is no where to be found. My wife leaves me outside with kids and goes inside to find her and my wife comes out and gives me the "look" and says " go get your mother ". I go inside and she is standing at the dessert buffet with a plate in hand eating away at a pile of cakes giving me a thumbs up. Needless to say I went and got us a table. The food was ok at best but we enjoyed the entertainment.

We have always enjoyed the Biergarten and of course now that my two are both of drinking age, they were thrilled. They were even more happy that they were able to drink at the age of 16 in Munich. Becca, I love the band. Sure it is cheesy, but I have always loved watching the little ones dance with their parents and grandparents. I am quite a chatterbox so love the communal tables. :)

Wow so much like the Festhaus at Busch Gardens (formerly The Olde Country now Europe) in Williamsburg. For some reason my mind melds the two attractions into one. There was a cool old guy at BG that would walk around with a full stone and lead the Fest . The burgermeister ! Guess the one here was a bit more touristy, but menu similar, both with tons of beer (now not limited to A. Busch brews), but I think BG has a better oompah band and dancers. Johnie could most likely give her thoughts on it.

I love Biergarten at Epcot. It's somewhat similar to Fest Haus at BG but really different as well. The performers at Biergarten make me think of an older more sedate oompa band. Whereas at Fest Haus they are younger and much more rowdy/festive. We ALWAYS eat at Fest Haus since it's the only air conditioned restaurant at BG lol

As got beer, I cannot compare. I was not if drinking age when BG had any good beers. Budweiser and the like do NOT equal good beer to me. Of course, I love Guinness so that also skews my view

Thank you for the photos of the food, I didn't think there would be anything in there that I would like as I am very fussy when it comes to sausages. There does seem to be some things I would like though.

I still don't fancy sitting at a table with lots of strangers, it would be different if there were more of us, but being just 2, it just isn't me

So if I'm there next year at the same time as you Becca, we'll tag along :D

Beer or what passed for it was always a central theme at BG over the years. I am have completed my "post doctoral" beer school studies there:D with numerous trips to the school housed in the Ireland section. Of course it was all Anheiser Bush stuff back then. We went back for Christmas Town in December and the beer selection has doubled or tripled (AB was bought out by Inbev - so now all kinds of European and domestic microbrews.)

Still it is a good time to go to the Festhaus.

The pavillion itself is attractive, but we don't spend much time here. I do like to buy ornaments and books in die Weihnachtsecke (Christmas shop) though.
We ate in the Biergarten once, but didn't enjoy sitting at the shared tables. We do like to eat in the Sommerfest quick service. Bratwurst served with sauerkraut, followed by apple strudel and washed down with beer. Delicious. :)

:mental: AHHH! You just reminded me of one of our other "favorite" things in Germany, the ornaments! When we were there in December '11, we purchased a new ornament each day to decorate our little in-room tree. We took turns choosing each day, and Baleigh couldn't WAIT for her first day to choose; she'd been wanting a "Pickle" for YEARS! So on her day, off we went to Germany and she got her pickle...in fact, she got a totally BLINGED out pickle!

Anyone who likes the Germany pavilion and especially the Christmas goodies should think about a trip to the German Christmas markets. Now I know I have a 'thing' about Germany, but honestly Nuremburg was one of the most beautiful cities I have visited apart from Prague and it is supposed to have the best Christmas market in Germany as it is 'tat free' with beautiful hand made goods and is the home of the original gingerbread, lebkuchen.

It is a beautiful country. We haven't been along the Rhine Diane but we took a train from Berlin to Prague in 2012 (so easy to do on a country with amazing public transport) and travelled along the River Elbe. What a trip and what beautiful scenery from Dresden onwards. It reminds me of the photos I have seen of the scenery along the Rhine.
