Does anyone go every couple of weeks to have these things filled . I hate these things, I really do . Since my nails were so short, I decided I would go and have them put on for the wedding . I was doing pretty good letting them grow up to a week ago . I really thought I wanted a cigarette, but its been over a year . Instead, I bit my nails . I went with the pink & white gels . I had them cut down to a workable length . I had them done about 1:00 and WoW, do they hurt now . Is it from the drill or the weight of the gel pulling on my real nail ? I took a couple of Advils . When can I expect the soreness to go away ?

depends on how far you bit them down..they should be fine tomorrow

Tinker

they didn't hurt anymore, if thats any sign to how low I bit them .

Usually a day or so.

I got pink and white gels in Feb. I will NEVER do that again. My nails are now finally back to normal.

I used to do them...a looooooooooooooong time ago....they've probably changed loads since I wore them, but they can do some *really* awful things to your real nails.

What are pink and white gels? I have very strong nails that grow like weeds (and I keep them wicked short) so I've never learned about the kind you add on.

The person who does them at the little spa place I go to for a pedicure has the WORST looking nails; all icky colored, thick, cracked and broken short. I'd never let her touch mine!

EWWWWWWWWW...no, I don't think I would either.

Our Headmistress was recently involved in an accident that fractured her toe...at the moment she has an "artificial" toe nail....

No, actually, I have no idea why I thought that was topical.

Well, nails are damaged regardless of what digit they are on, eh?

But what are those gel things that Johnie and Tinker are referring to?

I had them years ago - but they are so expensive and so much work to maintain. :rolleyes008:

My own ones are usually pretty good - travelling wrecks them so I expect to arrive in America with stubby ones - but you get that!

Honestly, I have no idea...I mean I know what acrylic nails are...but I think "gels" by definition are a bit different, they are *supposed* to be better for your natural nails I believe...but I'm not convinced any of them are "good" for you....

I'm sure Johnie will be along soon to educate us :D

Johnie

The gels are supposed to be better for your nails. I'd hate to see what regular acrylics do to them. The pink and white is this stuff they put on the nail to make it look natural. They were very pretty.

I normally have very long nails that are also very strong. Sometime in Feb., they decided they didn't want to be like that anymore and kept breaking. So, that's when I figured I'd give them a shot. I took them off in late March or early April. I just noticed that my real nails look right and are strong and growing long again. I just won't do it again. It's not worth it to me.

A woman I work with gets those fake nails put on. They always look so, well fake to me. they kind of tip upward, if that makes any sense.

I've seen some that looked nice, I suppose (those with fancy decorations) but having had long nails in the past, I know how inconvenient they are to work around.

Beccaberry

They don't play nicely with my contacts.

I nearly put my eye out several times when I wore them.

Dorothy

I have them as my own nails were always breaking and driving me crazy. I keep them at typing length and about every 6 months I remove them and let my own nails grow back until I get tired of never having any of them the same length and then I get new fake ones put on :sigh;

Tink
27-08-2008, 02:37 AM
Yes, I understand the tanning salon. It was Johnie showing her tan lines that earned the

Ahem, is that appropriate behavior for a PhD candidate, dear?

Beccaberry

Johnie
27-08-2008, 02:40 AM

I see you have all completely derailed my thread since I was here last . LOL :hug2:
Becca ~ not Shake N Bake ... Fake N Bake . ROTFLMAO
I usually start that in October to maintain my tan .
I"ve had these nails on and off before, like Dorothy, but then one day when they were off, I pressed on my nail and it was like pressing a sponge . I was like Ewwwwww, and haven't had them on since 06 . I'm only keeping them on fot the wedding/trip and they are coming off .

Tink
27-08-2008, 09:32 AM
Well, ok Miss Doctor to Be. I'll let the exhibitionism slide this time.

Sounds scary, Tinker! I can't imagine they are good to be wearing all the time. It's probaby a very good thing that you've kept them off for two years.

At least you won't bite those! Good for you for keeping away from the disgusting cigarettes. :hug1:

Shellyamc

i had them on the 10 years but in february went back to my own nails there still not back to being strong even now they really do starve your nails of oxygen....

Tinker
29-08-2008, 03:24 AM
I get mine soaked off and one time I let them grow until they fell off and then filed with an emery board to remove glue and put on hard as nails with vitamins .

I have to admit I am a 'fake' nail girl. I cannot grow my own I just pick at them constantly but with the acrylics I leave them alone completely. I have had periods when I've tried to grow my own nails minus the tips but it has been unsuccessful, I go every 2 weeks and that keeps them looking lovely!

PsychoAlice

Girl me too...Im a picker when I dont have them on but I leave them alone when I have my acrylics on...
