We are all but tinsel-free except for one long gold and white piece that had hidden mickeys in it. We bought it from DLRP and it goes up every year. Usually around the mirror.

i have voted for tinsel, i do like it - mostly in other peoples houses!

sometimes we do have tinsel but not loads of it - sometimes we don't have any at all, ot all depends what i feel like when we get round to decorating the tree........

i do NOT like red/blue/silver/green tinsel though, it has to be a nice tasteful gold not a loud garish one! :shocked025:

No tinsel since we have kitties....tinsel coming out the back end of a kitty just doesn't look as pretty and shiney as it does when you put it up.:shocked025:

Do you remember that tinsel like stuff called lametta that was out years ago. When we got our first house and real tree we put a small amount of this on our tree. My sister decided to copy only she put that much on you could hardly see the tree - it looked ridiculous. I haven't used tinsel as a decoration for at least 10 years but the kids do the tree/decs in the conservatory and they like tinsel so I grit my teeth and bear it (I do throw some away each year so there is less and less for them to decorate with)

Remember the really thin, spindly type of tinsel that you used to get when you were little? Horrible. Almost threadbare. Wrong!

All tinsel is WRONG!

It's the devil's decorations!

That's what we call garland and I do have that on my tree, but none of the put it one piece at a time stuff because we have a fake tree and I am NOT picking that one piece at a time stuff off every year.

No tinsel here. It would not stay around for long with the cats or bunny anyway.

I like tinsel but only if it is that thick luxurious looking stuff, however we now have a black fibre optic tree and can't put anything on it as once when we did it burned little black holes in the baubles! So no it's a fire hazard on our tree right now. It's great really... just put it up and plug it in and voila! done! My kids are all grown up now.

No tinsel for me either! I love the look of a 'bare' tree. The tinsel makes it looks like it's ready for a night out on the town! (a cheap night if ya know what I mean!)

My mom used to COAT the tree with it. You could barely see ornaments! Maybe that's where my loathing comes from!

I don't particularly like garland either. Depends on how it looks I suppose. I like lots of ornaments and lots and lots of colored lights.

I buy the biggest real tree that will fit in my house (8 feet we have very low ceilings) and i love to decorate it with white lights, toy decorations and beads, its very effective.

Yes, I meant none of that fake grass at Easter time, either. Sorry for the confusion.

I've seen some trees that are beautifully done using one strand of tinsel per decoration. They are the exception.

Like Dorothy, we use an artificial tree and there is no way I'm picking all that stuff off! Plus, I don't really care for it and Herself loathes the stuff.

We always have a real tree so we have to have a little bit of tinsel on the tree to hide the wires of the lights.

josh.p.
24-10-2008, 04:03 PM
Our tree is pre-lit so mum can perfectly decorate it with organza ribbon and boring baubles. We don't even have a disney ornament on it!

Tink

I do like to use dried baby's breath on the tree to add some dimension and texture. I've been known to use flocked baby's breath when I can find it. That makes a mess in its own right. :sigh;

I've used gold and silver bead strings, cut in smaller pieces, like tinsel (in that one short strand was hung on one part of a branch, etc.). It works in much the same manner but it easier (and cleaner) to put on and take off.

Love icicles--as tinsel is properly named! I like silver only, as it goes with my silver garland, ca. 1945. My parents bought the garland their first Christmas together and it's still hanging in there! A tad crushed in spots, but I just make sure those bits are tucked behind an ornament or under a branch. Sentimental, I know! :)

I drove my parents crazy with icicles when I was a child--wanted to throw them in clumps on the tree. Now I'm a bit more restrained.

My grandma has icicles that are in long pieces. It is really pretty on her tree. However, she does not have cats......

My Dad loved the silver icicle tinsel. We always had it on our trees at home when I was a kid. I loved throwing it on the tree..usually in clumps.. But now we have an artificial tree and 2 cats. So no tinsel here... Now garland is another story!!
