It will be perfect for school, as I just need something small to take notes and get on the net. And it was less than $350 at Amazon. :D

If that's what I think it is, it is $299 at Target. I saw it last week and told DH that it would be perfect to take on vacation!

Slightly different version. I just went to the Target site. This version just came out. But it would be perfect for business trips and vacations. :D

Johnie

That's what I was thinking. It is so little. You'll have to tell me how it works for you. I may get one :p015:

foreverducky

Will do. I'm just going to install Word so I can take it to school to use.

That's a really nifty idea.

Our teachers at high school had E-register on their laptops, and cos the P.E teachers had to carry theirs round with them, where as other teachers had just one room, they got these Asus ones, they where TINY and fitted in the palm of your hand!
Apparently all the students got given them, too, now, as the laptops we used to have where so clunky.

It'd be perfect for school... let me know how it is!

You bet josh. It's supposed to arrive on Thursday, which will give me time to work with it before class on monday.

Is it wierd that I'm getting excited?!

I saw the one at Target, also...well, actually Baleigh pointed it out...if you're pleased with it, it might be a brilliant idea for Christmas for her...

foreverducky
29-10-2008, 08:49 PM
Once I get it, I will take some pictures and post them, as well as share how the first tinkering goes. I'm very excited.

I think these things will be flying off the shelves for Christmas presents! they're really neat

foreverducky

Very true, especially due the super reasonable price.

awesome, I can't wait to hear what you think. I think I am going to get one. I was looking at the one in Target today.

Were you looking at the one I'm getting or a different one?

Johnie

I'm waiting on your review before I decide  I've seen the $299 one at Target. But, if the one your getting is better than I can certainly swing another $50

keith
30-10-2008, 02:01 AM
yeah its important to be careful, the one FD has scoped out is a very recent upgrade to the line and is definitely better than the old ones. The old ones should come at a significant discount to be considered good value now the new one is out

I have to say, I'm super stoked. :D I will be keeping an eye out for the UPS man tomorrow. I think it's going to be well worth the price, especially for my needs. :D I still use XP, so I'm happy it comes with that. I will just be adding the 2003 Word to it. I've heard that speakers are not great in these types of machines, but that's not really what I need it for.

Johnie
30-10-2008, 02:12 AM
I don't even use speakers on my home computer

foreverducky
30-10-2008, 02:19 AM
Sounds like a win, win situation. :D Now I need to go find my Word cd. Hmmm...it's here somewhere. I can picture exactly where it was in my old home...that's the one thing I hate about moving...never can find anything ever again. :D

Beccaberry
30-10-2008, 01:42 PM
Is it here yet, is it here yet, is it here yet?!! :D

foreverducky

Not yet, but I keep waiting! :D And I found my Word cd, so I'm allllllll ready to go.

Oh no, how am going to get word on it??

Well there will be a few ways.. first off, it'll have open office on it anyway so you dont necessarily need word on there

secondly you could get a USB cdrom for it and install that way

thirdly you could share the cdrom from your desktop/laptop to it over ethernet or wifi

One way or another, you'll get it on there :)

(heck I could be wrong about it not having a cdrom, I havent got one of the units myself but they seem too small to have one)

I think you're right Keith...here's my blonde moment. So, how do I accomplish your 'secondly' option? Does that mean I could just save word to my zip thingy? Or how do accomplish the 'thirdly' option? Sorry, this has moved beyond my abilities.

Need to wait until it's in your hands I think before going into it :) it'll be easier and they may have some suggestions about recommended ways to install in the handbook

Remember though these things arent intended to be full laptops. The idea is you use whats already installed! but I've read everywhere that you CAN install new stuff on them, so you ought to be able to

I got it, I got it!!!! :D

And yes it doesn't have a cdrom, but i think i could save word to my external hard drive and then load it on to it. It's charging. It's so little and cute. :) I will share some pictures in a few. I am reading the instructions.

It has 3 USB ports, a monitor port, microphone and headphones jacks, a SD slot (with an sd card already in place, and a phone jack. It also comes with a built in web camera. It seems to be the size of a hard back book. :)

Stay tuned pictures to come.

arghrghrhgrgh too tempting  some people moan about the keyboards on them, what does it seem like to you?

foreverducky
30-10-2008, 06:19 PM
also comes with the ac adapter, carrying sleeve, and cloth for the screen. The keyboard is small. I just think it will take a little time to get use to it, you know.

Here are some pictures. I hope with the highlighter and piece of candy you guys can get a perspective on it.

That looks brilliant :) Makes you wonder how they can charge so much more for larger ones doesnt it!

foreverducky
30-10-2008, 06:54 PM
 yes it does keith. I think it was a wise purchase. I'm going to attempt practicing on the keyboard this weekend. It's charging right now. They say I'm supposed to charge it for 8 hours before using it.

foreverducky
30-10-2008, 07:39 PM
okay, I took my zip thingy, opened word document on it, which then it opened it to a works program, and then I just saved it as a word doc (which I could do) and then I was able to open it back up on my computer that has word. So I don't think I'm going to have to install Word on it.

keith
30-10-2008, 07:42 PM
yep :) that's the way theyre designed and it'll almost certainly be better if you can use it that way

foreverducky
30-10-2008, 07:44 PM
Yes, that is so exciting. Sooooo worth the money!

Marie had one with her in FL . I loved how tiny and efficient it was as far as traveling . Besides the new cell phones, I didn't know there was one up from a cell size . Very Cool, foreverducky .

Beccaberry

How's the keyboard for you FD?

foreverducky
31-10-2008, 01:49 PM
It's a little tiny, but I will either get use to it or by one of those flexible keyboards. Either way it will work.

Beccaberry
31-10-2008, 01:50 PM
I know going from my desktop to my laptop was quite simple...so maybe it's just a learning curve of sorts...

Either way, if I purchased it for Baleigh....her hands are TEENY TINY!

foreverducky
31-10-2008, 01:55 PM
I think I'll be able to adapt, but it will take a little bit. And with the price is such a good deal. I gotten on the net with it and it works great, the screen is only 8.9 but it seems perfect for what I need.

Beccaberry
31-10-2008, 02:12 PM
Seems like a brill plan for Baleigh for Christmas...

Hey Keith, do you have the US Amazon link to order (might as well get the board a few pennies,eh?)

foreverducky
31-10-2008, 03:47 PM
i am currently typing on it and I'm doing fine, it doesn't seem like there is going to be any real problems typing :D

I LOVE THESE REVIEWS FD!!! THANK YOU!!!

foreverducky
31-10-2008, 03:57 PM
hey no problem at all. I am thrilled to have found this puppy and think it's going to be a great thing for school, as i can type a lot faster than I can write (i am a product of my generation).

I'm just so amazed at how small it is and the sleeve it comes with is nice. I will just need to but the charger in a baggie. Also, I do get about the five hours of battery life, which is amazing

Update: I have taken it to school and used in my classes. The battery does last a long time and I have no troubles at all typing on it. I type in Microsoft Works and then just save it to my zip drive as a Word 2003 program. As I sit close to the door I everyone saying "ooohhh, isn't that cute" and "boy, that sure is smaller than my big laptop." I've gotten nothing but compliments and questions about it.

Really great to hear it's worked out as you intended :) I went to pcworld to have a play last weekend and they were great. Keyboards not NEARLY as bad to type on as some reviews said

Great decision! I also bought a case to carry it from ebags (even though it comes with a sleeve) as I wanted something to hold the charger and zip drive thingy.
This is what I got: http://www.ebags.com/case_logic/external_hard_drive_and_ultra_portable_pc_case/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=80407
