Hi from Manchester airport

Very hot and crowded and only a very few desks now everyone has to checkin online or by screen at airport

Security now upstairs seemed more efficient

Plane is hot lips and a proper gate rather than being bussed out to a stand

Hopefully boarding soon i'm ready for my champagne :)

Hope you're all behaving ?

Now. Would someone please tell me why I feel like someone bonked me on the noggin and maybe the Russian army has marched through my mouth? Everything was just fine and suddenly...

Oh. And why is the door to Keith's office ajar? Surely no one has breeched the sacred inner sanctum!

Keith
06-12-2008, 04:28 AM
Well just back from EPCOT and awake for just over 24hours now  I'm just a bit tired

Random things from today

1. Virgin online checkin for the last couple of years has been faster than even Premium economy/upper.. no more. Everyone has to pre-checkin now whether online or at the airport and everyone economy ends up using the same bag drops. Sooooooo since there are still dedicated PE/upper bag drops, the advantage is back with those tickets again.

2. DME really can sometimes have long queues! Only took 30mins but that's still a long time at the end of a 9 hour flight

3. Nine dragons had a less nice menu for me (picky eater). The food itself was nice but expensive for what it was and it's still really not a great chinese. Quite what they did in the refurb apart from some superficials is unclear to me

4. Wow it's busy here! Busy at the hotel, at the parks, everywhere. It's been getting busier and busier at this time of year but I thought with the economy it may be slower.. .but not that I've noticed!

5. AKL now has lovely new large LG LCD high def tvs :D The HD channels look a lot clearer, sharper and generally all round better.. really impressive v the old tvs disney rooms had

I'm not too surprised at the crowds. The value resorts were sold out this weekend. I believe the MK parade taping was yesterday and today (Friday & Saturday) and Pop Warner begins today.

Went to Ruth's Chris steakhouse tonight and wow. Truly excellent in every single possible way

Tink

Morton's will be a bit pricier, and a bit more classically formal. (In the sense of Gentlemen's Club Steakhouse sort of thing). Charley's is where you take your family. Ruth's Chris is where you go with friends. Morton's is where you take 'important personages' in your life. :D

Randomly speaking of course. They all accept families and children.

Beccaberry
08-12-2008, 05:24 PM
*sigh* Utterly jealous you know....utterly.

Britchick
08-12-2008, 06:00 PM
what sort of price per head is Ruth Chris's ?

Tink
08-12-2008, 06:35 PM
I'm guessing, because it is so very dependent upon what you chose, but for three of us it was a bit over $150. So, $50 per person, but I do think that's a bit low.

We didn't have dessert, and I can't remember about wine. I know a glass for certain, but I don't think a bottle... also the a la carte sides are quite large enough to share, so we did.

If it were just the two of us, we'd spend more. I know that sounds weird, but we would.

Beccaberry
08-12-2008, 06:40 PM
Jon and I went on one of our very first dates...I think our bill was close to $150 for the two of us...but we did have drinks.

Britchick
08-12-2008, 06:43 PM
okey dokey, thanks

Tink
08-12-2008, 06:58 PM
Yeah, that's what I mean. When you go by yourselves you tend to take longer over dinner and spend more... you get wine, etc. The person we had with us the time I am citing in the above post wasn't a wine drinker (or any drinker) didn't want dessert. Really, the person really only wanted a massive piece of beef. :)

So, if it's just a couple (or two couples perhaps who are close) you could easily spend $100 per person.

Beccaberry
08-12-2008, 07:14 PM
True... we had drinks, but no sides...and we were so full at the end, we split dessert...

It was funny though...I was buying (as a result of losing a bet on a football game  )...and I swear I nearly died in a fit of giggles over how hard it was for him to NOT reach for the check at the end of the night...he was practically sitting on his hands! The look on his face was actually *pained* :D

Ruth's Chris is considerably cheaper than Morton's, I can tell you that. I'm thinking that with tax and tip at RC, we spent about $200. At Morton's we skidded in just under $400. And both of those are for two people.

yep, just over $200 for us at Ruth's Chris although we had no starters but did have champagne

Totally worth it though and if Morton's is better again, well, I can only try to imagine

Keith
10-12-2008, 12:54 AM
Went to the new T-Rex restaurant at downtown disney this afternoon (pics coming soon :)

No wait at all at 1pm on a Tuesday, but Im led to believe that's unusual!

It's pretty similar in terms of setup and menu to the rainforest cafe. There are dinosaurs all over that growl at you and some pretty good movement. There are three main rooms, one was a jungle type, one an under the sea style and my favourite, the ice room :)

The service was pretty good although it was clear it's a new restaurant and they were still finding their feet. Still, I'd class the service as a notch above rainforest.

The menu itself was astoundingly similar to rainforest with most of the same things. I'd rate the food slightly above RF in terms of quality but they're both pretty similar.

There did seem to be more space at trex, the tables werent quite so close which was nice.

All in all, I dont think you go to either place for the great food ;) but neither disappoints in terms of a fun show with an ok meal.

Tink
10-12-2008, 12:59 AM
Thanks Keith. About what I thought. I'm not an RFC fan at all, so you've saved me a trip. :D However, the little people in the family may think differently. :sigh:

yep, the little people certainly seemed to love the place

Like RFC every so often a storm errupts and the ice room turns red, dinosaurs go wild etc. and the kidlets certainly seemed to love it.

Even the tables were themed with fossils embedded therein.

There's also a build-a-dino style area from the build-a-bear people

I want to sit in the ice room. Thanks for the pics Keith.

I'm surprised there isn't a Build a Bear store in DTD like in CA. It would do tons of business.

OMG the ice room is amazing!!

It totally is  the other rooms aren't nearly as good as that one.

everything really looks icy blue until suddenly volcanoes erupt, dinosaurs start growling and the ice room turns red

definitely the best part of the whole place

Whilst I remember, they said they're not taking reservations or discount cards like ap/dde (tables in wonderland) till January when they should be taking all of them

We're just going to have to plan a 'Secrets meet at WDW in two or three years, Mick--and you're going to have to plan to be there, regardless of who else goes! Early to mid-December is a terrific time to visit WDW. :)

Start planning--and saving!

17th October to 8th January? That's a lovely, long holiday!

Okay, so we could base it around mid-December. You and Denise could plan the first few days--should be value season until the 21st or so--at one of the value resorts, then move to a villa for the remainder of your holiday. That way you would be on site for actual meets, but able to relax and spread out more the balance of your holiday. :)

See? You just have to think outside the box a wee bit! :D

And the holidays in Florida just might be enough to convince your young'uns to make the trip with you!
