Which is why I'll never trust the TCD name.

I guess it's Virgin's idea, buy a big part of the market out but keep it as the cheaper alternative.

Most people who lost thier TCD holiday re-booked with US airlines, not what Virgin wanted at all.

Yes and no.

I cried and cried and cried, in public!, when they went under, I thought my heart would break in two. Which is nothing to the people stuck in Orlando with no way home.

But, most people have thier money back, we're only weeks away from getting our refund and things have moved on.

People need choices and options, losing TCD limited a cheaper (although not always cheaper) alternative for Orlando holidays.

Virgin could have bought the dreggs of TCD and re-branded but they must think it's still a saleable brand.

 we don't tend to go virgin anyway- interesting decision though. I heard that Virgin was in trouble themselves- guess that's not true as they've managed to buy another company.

Should we recline?

Dawn
03-01-2009, 01:18 PM
Will they split the planes down the middle to keep the 2 groups apart?

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out

I'm betting that the prices will turn out to be more similar to virgin holiday prices than to the old TCD prices. This would enable them to pull in people on the TCD name and stops anyone else getting the benefit, if it still exists, of using the established TCD brand name.

So I'm betting TCD just becomes another VH. Same services, same planes, same prices etc.

After all, if the TCD lower price idea didn't work for them, why would virgin want to repeat the mistake

Jodie

I'm with you on this one Keith, Virgin don't want TCD share of the market to go to anyone else. I reckon within a year or two it's just plain old Virgin Holidays

Towards the end they often weren't cheaper anyway, just like with them all it's who can get you the best deal at the time you need it

Yeah, before they used XL planes they were red and white TCD branded flights

I think it will be intresting to price up fly/drives with both companies.

I for one will miss the old TCD as it was the only way i could afford first class (XL1) and i will keep a look out to see if they use their old plans, i know they were old and a little tatty but the legroom.

I wonder how many searches they get tommorow when the site opens for business?

see that's what I think they should've done. Buy the planes too and convert the whole plane to XL1 first class. That way it would have been something different from the market, they'd get more money per plane etc.

a lot of those business only airlines have gone bust though haven't they, oh who knows - it's all a gamble isn't it?

they did but I think they were flying from less well used airports etc. TCD was at all the big places and their "first class" was still quite holiday oriented.

Most people I know tried for TCD upgrades before settling for economy so I really think the market was there

must admit when i looked at them i looked at the middle one- can't remember what it was called. I just don't like packages though. Wonder what they're doing about the crews? whether they will take on the TCD crew or make the virgin lot work more?

Jodie

So, yesterday I priced up two identical fake holidays, one with Virgin and one with TCD.

They were exactly the same. Two adults, Two weeks in September,

Flights
Pop Century
Basic Car hire with Platinum insurance
Orlando Flex ticket plus
5 Day Premium Disney tickets

Virgin were 733 cheaper for the package, and yes the TCD flights were on the Virgin plane.

They're all virgin planes into orlando rather than tcd (xl air) into sanford

Sooooo it really is just virgin holidays under a different name and as jodie says, sometimes even more expensive!
