I think you shouldn't have too much trouble getting something Mick. October isn't heaving like the summer so chances of getting a good choice of places are good. Will you be looking for character meals? They will probably be harder to get for certain times of the day but it's got to be worth trying! How many of the family are going on this trip?

That's true enough... september will be busy with the free dining, hopefully a bit less in October.

Mick I am not sure if you are restricting your diet, but the mushroom Steak in Le Cellier was Top Stuff.
I would skip the Sci Fi Diner but that may be just me.

I am sure you'll have no problem getting some decent meals booked in you just might have to be a bit more flexible with your times.
Have you decided on anything specific yet?
:)

What kind of "normal" food do you want, Mick? Have a feeling my definition probably is different than yours!
Give us something to work with, man! ;)
Normal food = fried chicken and mashed potatoes and green beans = 50s Prime Time. ;)

How many meals are you looking to do nutty?
The buffets can be good if you want "normal" food because there's a wide choice. Crystal palace, liberty tree tavern (family style)
Hoop dee doo! great show + chicken, ribs, beans ;)

Crystal Palace in MK is very good for a buffet. I've only done dinner there, and highly recommend it. I really like the salmon--and the carving station is excellent. There's enough variety to keep everyone happy, and the food is maintained well. Leu absolutely loves a dinner roll they have that has nuts and some fruit in it. She asked for the recipe--wouldn't you know it's one of the things they purchase off site! *sigh*
Liberty Tree Tavern in Liberty Square is good, as well. It's served family style--semi-traditional Thanksgiving type food. Turkey, beef (I think flank steak) and some type of pork, plus mashed potatoes, a couple of types of veggies and a cobbler for dessert. That's the dinner menu. Not as much variety as a buffet, but if everyone likes something on the menu, it works well. This is the dinner menu. Lunch menu has sandwiches and salads.
I'm less enthused about H&V in DHS. We've had mixed experiences there--also very crowded, due to the Fantasmic Dinner Package.
We enjoyed dinner at 1900 Park Faire, as well, although we dined there before the renovations. I understand the menu has changed, but reports have been good. Remember, there will be many princesses at this venue!

Pecos Bills at MK do nice burgers and Gavin loved the Chicken Strips at Electric Umbrella at Epcot and there is no adr needed!
:)

Counter service at MK: Columbia Harbour House. A bit more variety (or there was--WDW has been changing menus lately) than some of the other CS optios.

If you're heading up to Universal, the Hard Rock Cafe is worth a visit.
