Day 10 – Discovery cove

We are up early and all excited as its Discovery cove day. This is DS1’s favourite park. He would live here if he could. We arrive at about 8am and get a swim for about 1pm. We go and grab some breakfast then head to get our wetsuits and snorkels.

It’s time to hit the troppical river. I have no idea where they learned to snorkel but both the kids have it sussed. I do the floating like a dead fish in the water type of snorkelling. Float around face down. Heeheehee.

We do the river 4 times then head to the aviary to see all the pretty coloured birds. DS2 just loves feeding them.

Back round the river then over to the reef pool. It was soooooo cold but amazing. DS2 didn’t like it in here last year but loved it this time. We couldn’t get him to leave. Anyone else think the barracudas are way scarier than the sharks in the shipwreck?

The stingrays are huge and so gentle; they are like big sea butterflies. I love the spotty ones the best. One swam right beneath DS2 and me. It was absolutely stunning.

I think DS1 could spend his whole day in the coral reef pool. While DH, DS2 and I name the fish such things as - the bluey green fish with the yellow bits or the pinky red fish with spots. DS1 actually knows their real names. lol

It time to walk over for our swim. We are with a Swedish couple and a New York Mum and son, who were all lovely. Our Dolphin is Kia (SP) He is the dominant male but was sooooo gentle. Our interaction was fantastic and worth the entry fee alone.

Like Sea World we always have mixed feelings about being entertained and interacting with animals in captivity for profit, but are also aware of the invaluable rescue and research that they do too.

I think when all is said and done when it comes to Discovery Cove we are a family of hypocrites. :sorry:

After our swim we head back up for our lunch. I had some kind of chicken with mash and veggies, I can’t remember what everyone else had. There is always a good selection though. It was very hot by this time so we headed straight back to the resort pool and Tropical River. I think we swam round another 5 times. At approximately 5:30 we were asked to vacate the pool as it was closing time.
We showered, picked up our photos and left.

We didn’t buy the disc of photos this year just a few each of the boys. I have scanned them so they are quite dark. Woops!!!!!

We got back to the hotel about 8pm and just chilled the rest of the night then fell fast asleep.

This would be what I call an idyllic day.:wiggle:

Thanks for reading. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
