NEWS FLASH!!!!!!

Snow flake spotted in Dorset!

It's snowing here, but it seems to be blowing over the floor rather than sticking!

Claire
01-02-2009, 06:00 PM
Ok, my optimism lasted about 3 minutes. The weather forecast shows the snow making it as far as Hampshire. Once again, Dorset misses out!

Dawn

oken up to 3 or 4 inches of snow here this morning! And more forecast! I don't have to go to work today so it will be snowman building time when DH gets home at lunchtime :snowballthrow:

About 4 inches here and it's already chaos. Still snowing. Even the major roads are closed. No trains or buses. And it's not even 7am yet. I'm trying to find out about school closures but the local radio website has crashed under the strain.

Go to southern fm and click on the news link, school closures are listed on there. not sure what area you are in, but try your local radio website.

Trying Southern FM. The site is down due to everyone else trying it. Also trying the West Sussex gov site, that's down too. :rotfl:

Have you found out about the school yet Dawn?

Still snowing here, it's very pretty! I don't have to go out today. DH has gone to work but is going to get back by 1pm - this is the day that we are thankful we have a 4 wheel drive truck or he'd never get home.

I know what that's like! :D Sorrel loves the snow but she slowly becomes weighed down with ice balls on her feet and we have to pop her toes in a warm bath to melt them all!

Dawn

So far school still open. Don't know how much longer I can hold out before getting him dressed and trekking off there. :(

:( spun the car trying to get into the carpark today - I know it looks pretty but the disruption is awful and frankly pathetic 1/2 an inch of snow and the country grinds to a halt

Hope we can fly out on Friday

Dawn

Have set up temporary bird feeding station in garden. All normal feeders are buried.

I went back in a bit earlier than Dawn. I had to throw willow in the bath and give her a warm shower to de-ice her.

I have the dubious misfortune to be able to log into work remotely... so i have no excuse to have a day off

Dawn

Sad git.

Claire
02-02-2009, 09:49 AM
Well I saw some sights walking Maisie to school. Cars with break lights on, wheels not turning but still doing 30 mph. And don't get me started on the amount of people that insist on driving up to the school gate. The school is in a cul-de-sac so the school routinely ask parents not to drive into the school road as it causes gridlock and endangers the children. Through compacted snow into the equation and it was scary beyond belief.

I fell and hurt my back several years ago in weather like this.

Goodness! I'm beginning to think snow in the UK is rather like getting snow in Florida. The whole place is thrown into chaos, with everything shut down or impassable until it melts of its own accord.

Hey. I've been here with snow on the ground and roads (not Orlando area, panhandle) and it is SO not a pretty thing!

When I was in Mass last week, they had a snow day with snow, sleet and freezing rain all in one day. I had a 4x4 so wasn't too bothered by it, and still have those old driving in the snow skills to call on, but winter weather is not fun when it becomes dangerous. :(

Yep. No-one needs to ever attack the UK....just dump a load of snow and we grind to a halt. :(
