Countdown timers are those things you see in peoples' signatures which display the time to go to a special event. It could be a Disney trip or a birthday for example.

Although we've had countdown timers for some time, we've never been totally pleased with them. They don't run out at the end they just start counting again and some people found them hard to setup.

Well, drum roll please, I'm pleased to present the new exclusive Disney Secrets Countdown timers :D

Developed specially for Disney Secrets by Hex, with graphics by Dawn, we believe these countdowns will be easier to use, faster and altogether more fun. There are some great new fonts to use as well :D

They are already available in a new features called the Disney Secrets Toy box at http://toys.wdisneysecrets.com/

We'll be adding some more useful and fun toys in the coming weeks and months to keep Disney Secrets fresh and fun to use.

So..... go have a play and again official Disney Secrets thanks to Dawn and Hex who made these possible

Date based countdowns will automatically calculate your progress using the current date.

Number based countdowns will need to be updated manually (I can't make it work out how well your diets or disney funds are doing...)

You can update the settings for your countdowns directly in the signature editor of the User CP...

Here is a quick guide...

Have fun :)

Hang on piglit will be back after lunch.

Piglet, plus a few others that were missing have been copied to the new Countdowns for you :-)

I have also modified the way the slider images are shown, so they are listed side-by-side, rather than one long vertical list... hopefully that will make it a bit easier to locate the sliders you want

MystikPiglit...

hmm... what web browser are you using (name and version if possible), and can you also tell what operating system you are using as well (windows xp / vista? max osx?)

it has worked ok on the various web browsers i have tested it on, so something odd may be happening for you. :(

XP sp2 with IE6. Is that what you need to know? (I found that in a previous post...I don't actually speak geekese)

when you say all the boxes are on top of each other... what do you mean? as in theyre covering each other? or just one then another above it on the screen etc?

yeah ok tested with that.... and I can see what you mean :)

Sir Hex, the settings/fonts/backgrounds/sliders box is covering the html image tag. ie. offset to the right in the very very old and buggy IE6

MistikPiglet.... as mentioned in PM, here is my attempt at recreating your existing counter... if you want to use it, I am sure one of the signature faries would be happy to add it for you, if asked nicely and given cookies

http://toys.wdisneysecrets.com/countdown/countdown.php?mode=date&start=01-Oct-2008&end=13-Sep-2009&current=2&units=hiding%20places&background=Characters/pooh&slider=Characters/piglet&titleFont=f2&titleColour=c4&counterFont=f6&counterColour=c5&text=When%20you%20wish%20upon%20a%20star,%20your%2 0dreams%20come%20true&target=Living%20the%20Dream%21 (http://www.wdisneysecrets.com/)

Warning... Warning... :geekon: alert...

IE6 has issues with CSS positioning if i remember... that is probably what is going on here. I have not got IE6 available for testing unfortunatly. (tested on IE7, Opera, Firefox, Google Chrome, Epihany (a web-kit based browser on linux)

The Countdown Creator layout is all done with CSS positioned elements... might have to change that back to a table-based layout which is more likely to work in IE6

Can you, Keith, or any other user of IE6 please check to see if the countdown creator layout works properly now please?

hmm... ok will have to think deeper...

apart from the layout issues, does the functionality work ok? can you switch tab pages properly, and does the preview image update when you change settings and background / slider images?

I'm confused!

I am going the same day as Dizneyblonde but my timer says 204 days and hers is less ( the correct amount of days!)

This is my code minus all the taggy things and the beginning bit so I can show you the bit with the date in:

.php?mode=date&start=10-Aug-2009&end=01-Sep-2009&units=Days&background=Places/akl&slider=General/headpink&titleFont=f2&titleColour=c2&counterFont=f2&counterColour=c2&text=Our first trip home to AKV!&target=Woo-Hoo!

And this is what my timer looks like:
http://toys.wdisneysecrets.com/countdown/countdown.php?mode=date&start=10-Aug-2009&end=01-Sep-2009&units=Days&background=Places/akl&slider=General/headpink&titleFont=f2&titleColour=c2&counterFont=f2&counterColour=c2&text=Our first trip home to AKV!&target=Woo-Hoo! (http://www.wdisneysecrets.com/)

I want to go the same day as Teresa not in 204 days :cry1:

I know it is probably something stupid that I am doing wrong but if somebody clever could help me I would be very very grateful :D

keith
09-02-2009, 12:01 PM
you've probably set the start date wrongly :)

The start date should be 1st jan, or today or whenever you want the counter to start FROM

The end date is when you want the counter to end ie. the first day of your hols

Dizneyblonde
09-02-2009, 12:01 PM
Lisa i've just checked what i put in.

Start date today as it's the start of the countdown.

End date 10 Aug as that's the day we go.

See if that makes a difference hun.X
